It took us about 10 minutes to find it ( we had the wrong address) but once you know what you are looking for , it is easy to find . It is a XIII th century building whose main purpose was to defend the city and should had been very hard to access . This is why the door was on the second floor and required a ladder to open it ! . The building was restored to have the same look it had when it was built !

This is one of those 8 or 9 defensive towers, which Trier had in the middle Ages. But she was simultaneously a residential house, just the entrance to it was located high and was carried out by means of a ladder. However, later were made the "normal" entrances.
The name is a little strange – it turns out that on the building once were hung a painting with a scene of the adoration of the Magi.
In general, a tower house hass no different features in comparison with its other counterparts like Frankenturm, the Jerusalem tower. Except the paintings of semi-circular windows on the upper levels and vicinity to Porta Nigra and the Hauptmarkt.

While looking at the Frankenturm - a formidable 11th century tower house in the Dietrichstraße - we read in our guide there were remains of a Romanesque tower house from the 13th century in the Simeonstraße. So we went to have a look and were in for a big surprise.

The House of the Three Magi (‘Dreikönigenhaus’ in German) has nothing of a fortress. With its white facade and elaborate painted patterns above the arched window, it looks more like some kind of Moorish palace. The present entrance at street-level is not medieval. People entered through the opening above the right door, using stairs or a ladder that could be removed in case of danger.

Our guide also specified the tower had been transformed into a gothic habitation and had undergone extensive remodeling in the 19th century. So we weren’t quite sure what we were looking at, but the result is colourful and quaint. The Dreikönigenhaus now houses a chain coffee shop.

Same street heading to the Porta Negra midway from the marketplace this beautiful building will catch your attention. I look for something to sit on and found out a nice looking building fronting where i was, different from the others.

Do not miss this nice sight!
