Bocci 79 is a ten-year showroom installation for a contemporary Canadian design & manufacturing company. It opened late 2015.
Entry is currently free.
In reality prepare to be stunned by a very novel artistic approach to lighting, currently situated across three floors of a stunning vintage building.
The exhibition is the result of the vision of sculptor/artist Omer Arber, the creative designer for Bocci.
Arbel's obsessions with varying materials, in particular with novel manipulations of glass, coupled with his fascination for space, light and lighting have resulted in sumptuous installions of breathtaking beauty that have to be witnessed to be fully appreciated.
These works are set in, and through, art-gallery like spaces, bare minimalist rooms, corridors and stairwells, a labyrinth of glowing wonder and in totality achieve a peaceful meditative vibe, a sanctuary of calm, (in stark contrast to the street in which the building is set).
i loved this show. The inventiveness of the works, the ground-breaking novel ways that the materials have been manipulated, the organic flavour to all the pieces, the simple transparent method of presentation, the thoughfulness of the way the works interract with the building, the sheer sensuous FUN of the project. Glorious!
Arbel's previous years as an architect are most apparent. So too his playfulness.
In all it is a marvelous show, one both myself and my partner have been enthused with ever since. It literally lit us up, physically and spiritually. I thoroughly recommend it to anyone with an interest in the arts, be that fine-art, sculpture, architecture or light, or indeed anyone seeking a peaceful and novel experience in a delightful old building.
