Neighborhood: Kreuzberg
Description: SOMETHING THAT CHEF CHRISTOPH HAUSER AND HOST MICHAEL KOHLE BOTH FEEL VERY STRONGLY ABOUT: Respect for the animal means that all of its parts should be used - from nose to tail. And it is on this basis that our restaurant prepares its dishes and creates its weekly menu, sharing gastronomic pleasures otherwise to be enjoyed only at the dinner tables of farmers who slaughter their own livestock. Cuisine here is not limited to just the "choice" cuts of meat. Our guests instead have the opportunity to discover the joy of good food - beyond just the tenderloin filet.

OK, I have to say it. If you want the WOW effect and looking for a place to impress a guest, you can´t go wrong with Herz und Niere. Although it specialises in gourmet fusion meet dishes, they made a specially tailored vegetarian menu for myself, which I found it to be sublime creation of tastes and aromas. The service was impeccable, the prices were a bit high for Berlin standards ( we opted for 5 course meal each plus a bottle of wine and payed over 250 Euros), but it totally deserves their Michelin recommendation, which we all know is not easy to get. Location is on a quiet street in Kreuzberg, cosy room, a slight acoustical problem, being too loud. I would suggest that one puts some sound-isolation materials on the walls or beneath the chairs in order to stop the loudness. Other then this :FABULOUS!

Beginners pretending to be professionals.
Low food quality, ridiculous service and extremely expensive bill.

Lovely small room, white walls, sparsely but comfortably set (and interesting lighting). Really imaginative chef, interested in all parts of the beast in cooking. So, we had a lovely head cheese in great salad, boar liver – gamey and well sauced, sweetbreads perfectly prepared, and finished with venison. All nicely done with imaginative sauces/accompaniments – and a great server too.

We ate at Herz & Niere last night and really had the perfect experience.
We notified the restaurant in advance of our dietary restrictions and the team went out of their way to make sure we have a great time.
The food was amazing and non conventional, the service was warm and caring, the atmosphere was intimate and quiet.
I highly recommend you try it too :)

We did a lot of eating out while in Berlin, and Herz & Niere was the best. We had the non-offal tasting menu and loved it. Delicious. The owners were so nice, knowledgeable, and congenial. Couldn't ask for more. Nice and quiet, too!
