I just returned from a 2 night stay at the Hotel de Rome and it is a very fine hotel. We purchased a room with breakfast included, and the breakfast was excellent. They made to order the hot dishes, while also having an extensive buffet.
Check In: Check in was excellent as our room wasn't ready when we arrived, but they took our luggage and placed it in our room while we were out sightseeing. They also bought us a drink (a coffee and a beer) at their bar while we were waiting. We were asked at check in if we'd like a US paper in our room, and because they offered we said yes. Unfortunately we never received that paper.
Room: The room was spacious and comfortable. The shower was a little small but had a great shower head. The bathtub was big, but it took forever to get moderately filled, and the sprayer was terrible- it jetted out too fine of a spray and basically hurt my head as I rinsed out my shampoo.
Housekeeping: Outstanding, detailed, and very attentive.
Concierge: This is where I knocked off a star, otherwise it would've been a 5 star. I had trouble using my phone to book a table at the Sphere restaurant, the revolving one on top of the TV Tower. I could tell my own efforts that there were tables available, but my phone internet wasn't working well to complete the booking. I decided to ask the concierge, and this woman told me to just book it myself online (!). Isn't that what a concierge is there for?? She saw my frustration and then offered to do it for us, but then told us that there were no tables available. I knew there was a table available. We left, used the hotel wifi to book a table about 1 minute after she couldn't do it. What a terrible concierge. Although I couldn't book a table at the window because it showed full, I could still get a table. Why didn't she make an effort to get the request done for us? It ended up with us visiting the restaurant, but I also noticed that there was many open tables by the windows. If she was a decent concierge she would've made our reservation for us with a window table- making it happen is what concierge staff do.
Spa: We didn't have time for any treatments, but the pool is something is to see, it's beautiful. They have a steam room and sauna too for guests. My husband forget his swim trunks and didn't want to buy what they had for sale because they were a bit short and about $200. He was surprised at the price, but it is a fancy hotel.
One more thing to compliment on was the in room slippers. They were probably the nicest slippers I've seen in a hotel.
The hotel's vibe isn't stuffy and it kind of reminds me of how a Four Seasons makes you feel- just comfortable, but it has a modern funky decor.
