Owner description: The Berlin Wall Memorial is the central memorial site of German division, located in the middle of the capital. Situated at the historic site on Bernauer Strasse, it extends along 1.4 kilometers of the former border strip. The memorial contains the last piece of Berlin Wall with the preserved grounds behind it and is thus able to convey an impression of how the border fortifications developed until the end of the 1980s. The events that took place here together with the preserved historical remnants and traces of border obstacles on display help to make the history of Germany's division comprehensible to visitors. The memorial is part of the Berlin Wall Foundation, which also includes the Marienfelde Refugee Center Museum, the central site dedicated to the history of flight and emigration in divided Germany. MOBILE TOURGUIDE Visitors to the Berlin Wall Memorial who have a smartphone or a tablet computer with internet access at their disposal have the opportunity to select an individual tour of the memorial grounds for themselves on the memorial's mobile website berliner-mauer.mobi.

You can not come to Berlin and not visit the Wall memorial. It is free and you can see what the wall looked like as there are big sections still in place. It really is a sobering experience to see the pictures of those who died trying to win their freedom.

Get off the U Bahn at Bernauer Strasse and the tour starts there. It’s very informative with commentary, photos, Wall sections, watch tower and visitor centre. It’s free and it’s excellent. Don’t miss doing this when you visit Berlin!

A little out of town, no need to take travel bus en route - a cab is cheaper and easier. Can be a little busy but try to take yourself away from others and think about the situation and how the wall is set up and it becomes quite harrowing. Well worth a visit. doesn't take long but well worth it.

Sadness and happiness come to mind when visiting the wall. Sad for the 38 years it existed , happiness that it is gone . Very tastefully set up with information . We got off from our bus tour as a stop and then walked to checkpoint Charlie and the Brandenburg gate . I new the way and it was a nice day . Worth the visit when in Berlin .

Very personnel educational monument showing what people lived during the wall period. Walking along this monument shows you the results of separathing people. For them, the war lasted till 1989. You can’t understand people still consider a wall being a suitable solution.
