My third stay at the Regent. This is a very elegant hotel, right at the heart of Berlin, adjoining the beautiful Gendarmenmakrt. My room had views over the Französische Kirche. Quiet, and very elegant spaces downstairs. But it is struggling to keep up with its Five Star rating. The rooms feel dated and a bit tired (v welcome Nespresso machines notwithstanding). Décor is a bit dull and lacklustre in the rooms, though the (limited) spaces downstairs are glitzy and elegant.. Ironically the part that least needs updating - the excellent Fischers Fritz restaurant - was closed for renovation on our visit! A good gym, but the services are not really what you'd expect from a five star hotel. The room service menu was also a bit lacklustre, and breakfast expensive - though there is a good range of places to eat on the square.
So though I like this place, I'm afraid it's losing its shine, and will find it progressively harder to justify its high prices. I really hope they can arrest the slow decline.More
