Owner description: This prominent public square, the largest in Munich, still stands as the center of social activity in the city, much as it has throughout history.

This is a great place to start exploring this part of Munich. The metro takes you right into Marienplatz. At night there are lots of spot lit buildings to photograph and cafes and restaurants to try out.

This is one of the best Christmas Markets in Germany. Wonderful, if crowded, anytime. Easy access by transit.

Having spent my whole life in this beautiful town it is not true sin if you don’t visit this place. Wonder amidst the Munich old town, have a great shopping experience in the malls and shops nearby, and if our local heroes the FC Bayern Munich bring home their achievements, you will find yourself celebrating in a fully cheering crowd to welcome our football heroes as they present their rewards. Enjoy a delicious Italian style espresso or cappuccino and have an original Bavarian dish at the traditional beer gardens surrounding the Cathedral Square. And when the clock hits the full hour, see you will witness the famous Munich glockenspiel with the ancient dolls and figures showing up for the joust. Also don’t forget to pass by the traditional market place (Viktualienmarkt) where you can find groceries from all over the world and have a seat next to a typical Bavarian style dressed guy sipping on his ice cold beer. There is hardly any other place where you can vividly contemplate and feel the Bavarian and German spirit. It’s a must for any tourist and for the locals it’s a delightful place. If you happen to pass by in the pre-Christmas time you will witness the traditional Christmas market where you can have a tasty cup of warm spiced wine.

My husband and myself arrived in Munich yesterday, and decided that we would go and explore the area around the Marienpletz. The Marienpletz is an absolutely magnificent building, I was in awe of it. It was very busy with lots of people standing around and taking photographs. Its a very busy area, and we were there before lunchtime, but well worth a visit. Lots of places to sit and eat, it's a lovely shopping area with links to the trains. Worth a visit

We recently spent time in Munich and were amazed at the architecture of the old and new City Hall buildings. There were lots of tourists and locals there on a sunny Easter Weekend. We waited for the famous Glockenspiel to play but were disappointed that it doesn’t happen every hour only certain times and more often in the summer. A must see!
