The tram and its service is excellent. The price is extortionate. Two or more will travel more cheaply in a taxi. I bought a ticket online before I flew in, and showed the QR thingy to the ticket collector on my phone without having to print anything. Impressive in every way except price.

Ticket machine not the most friendly, but got there in the end. 16 euros credit card.
I stayed near perrache, and should have stuck with the tram only to get to Part Dieu, as metro was a nightmare of changes with a suitcase and escalators that didn’t work. Could have stayed on tram system and would have been quicker. Comes to the centre point of terminals, only 5 mins to check in via walking from there. Good service. Recommend trams wherever possible.

Although Lyon airport is not the most inconveniently located airport in the world, getting out there from Lyon should be a simple and straightforward experience.
It's made difficult by the simple fact that the only public transport allowed is the Rhonexpress tram.
It's ludicrously expensive, some 16 euros each way for each person, it doesn't leave from the centre of town, you'll have to make your way to Gare Part dieu first, you'll have to catch a tram or train there to start with so your 16 euro ticket is now going to be 18 euros.
If there's two of you it's probably better to catch a cab, or do what we have do now and check out the ride sharing options. I wont mention any company names but a car ride sharing business gets us out there for 4 euros.

This train is very very expensive .. And the last stop isn’t in the City centre neither, we had to catch another train to get there. The train is new and clean, but it’s unbelievable that we have to pay this much.

Rhone Express is quick and simple. Upon leaving the airport just follow the signs for transportation. You'll pass the train station then the TGV station then immediately look for the large red Rhone Express box to purchase your ticket. After buying your ticket follow the signs outdoors, to the right. The train shuttle runs every 15 min.to Lyon Part Dieu station. Its a little pricey, 15 euro at the airport, you can save a couple euro if you prepurchase online. It wasn't crowded on Saturday morning, there was helpful staff onboard who explained the Metro connections. At Lyon Part Dieu I paid approx. 3 euro for the metro from Lyon Par Dieu to Place Bellecour.
