Nice and new hotel the “newly” re-done area of Lyon confluence. The hotel is right by a shopping mall with plenty of restaurants and also near a Carrefour, perfect for food shopping. You have a tramway in the main street close by that can take you to the city center in no time if you do not want to walk. The hotel itself is new and well furnished; our room was small but well-appointed and with a comfy bed. Very nice shower with a glass wall, see through or opaque. Friendly and welcoming staff at the reception.

The Novotel is located just outside the city center; however, it is easily reached by tram via Lyon Perrache.
The hotel offers a good business 4-star standard. The rooms are sufficiently big, modernly furnished with a bench seat and a large writing desk. The beds are comfortable. The amenities include a kettle for tea and coffee, a safe deposit box as well as a reliable WIFI. The bathroom is equipped with a shower cabin.
The breakfast buffet offers a good selection. Unfortunately, there was chaos on the breakfast room on weekends at 09:00 AM, due to insufficient space to accommodate everyone.
The hotel is located directly at a shopping mall. The hotel has a reserved space in the hotel garage with direct access. Parking costs € 8.-for 24 hours. Slightly further in the direction of Gare de Perrache are many restaurants.
This hotel offers a good option for those travelling by car to Lyon. On weekends promotional rates are available.

Good location with easy access to tram, with tram stop directly outside the shopping centre to which the hotel is attached.
Direct connection on tram line 1 to Part Dieu station (about 20-25 mins).
Only 2 tram stops the other direction to Tony Garnier concert hall.
Very friendly and helpful staff.
Room size of superior room overlooking the river is correct.

Some issues however marred tne overall positive impression :

-Virtually no toiletries other than a tiny bar of hand soap and some yucky shower gel from a dispenser attached to wall. No body lotion, no shampoo, no qtips, no washcloths.
-No iron, no ironing board.
-Air conditioning in room was set to heating mode and could not be lowered. The room was oppressively hot, very uncomfortable for sleeping. Were advised by staff this was a global winter setting to "hot" and could not go any cooler. So were forced to crack window open, which will only open about 2 cm with a security latch in place. Even with window open and night-time temps around 3 or 4 degrees the room barely cooled down.
-Zero recognition or acknowledgement as Club Accor Platinum member.

Given the price paid of 110 Euros per night including breakfast, this is a fair price to quality ratio.

This is a fairly new hotel that enjoys a riverside location in the developed area of the south end of Confluence (where the majority of the buildings are modern). It is a 25 minute walk to Place Bellecour. We had a superior room. I am not sure exactly what that means but we had a view over the river (Saone) and the room in other respects was quite standard. The room was clean, the bed was firm but comfortable, the en suite had an interesting lighting arrangement but worked well and was also clean. There was adequate storage, wifi and a tea making facility. Reception is on the second floor along with the restaurant, bar and outside terrace (that also gives direct access to the adjacent shopping mall). The breakfast offered was variable. We reckoned that the issue was that the staff were not anticipating the needs of the clients. So, for example, there might be sausage but no egg, or egg but no bacon etc etc. Choose your own permutation! The scrambled egg was gone by the time we arrived for breakfast on the morning. When almost finished breakfast, a fresh batch of scrambled egg was delivered. Rejoicing at the prospect I dived in only to find that it was stone cold! There was also a device for frying one's own egg. This comprised quite a large hot plate and a huge supply of non stick mini frying pans with a tiny supply of mini wooden spatulas. On our first day there were no eggs. On our second day there were eggs but the device was occupied by a woman, who judging by the number of children surrounding her was a member of the Von Trapp family, and who solemnly, and unbelievably slowly, fried one single egg (rather inexpertly) when the cooking device could have accommodated several mini frying pans. This was not an efficient arrangement. The bread looked rather curly although most of the food looked quite fresh. My point is simply that someone in management could usefully pass an eye over the breakfast arrangements and make some simple improvements. The staff were pleasant but were active rather than effective. Egg issues aside, we had an enjoyable stay, and thought our experience was good value.
