Little hidden cosy place. We were invited for a menu. Rich starter buffet, excellent mains (lamb, beef or fish). Fine local wines.

Just happened to walk by on a Thursday at lunchtime and got the last available table. Had the plat du jour with dessert and enjoyed it thoroughly. The pear tart was outstanding. I'm still dreaming about it. Total bill with salad buffet and water but no wine was 40 euros. Great value for the quality of meal and experience we had.

Opted for steak dish of the day at 11,50 euros, cooked on an open fire within the restaurant - buffet of cold starters or dessert available for a few euros more, but main course with veg and potatoes was plenty, and bread and water included. Bargain near the Granet museum!

Hotel receptionist recommended La Brocherie when we booked in. It was in walking distance, so decided to give it a try. First impression walking in the door was good, nice ambiance and lighting. Checked the menu and ending up going for two of the day's specials, wood fired prawns and the rib eye steak.
So how badly can you screw up the house specials? Well, the three prawns were over cooked and tough, served with spaghetti noodles and 'minced' vegetables dropped from an ice cream scoop by the looks of it. The steak was half edible, half gristle, same scoop of veggies, and fairly good french fries. Both plates around 20 Euros.
Told the waitress we were disappointed at the end of the meal, and the manager came over after the bill was presented and we described our disappointment and best response was that they had been in business for 15 years and everyone liked their meals. No reduction in price, no comp of wine or desert.
Short version, French restaurant trying to be a North American steak house and failing the grade.
