The building is gorgeous and a wonder to observe from inside and out. The wall in which the entrance is located is covered in engravings of Bible stories and the towers give the building a lot of character. Inside is a lot more simple than I had expected for a Catholic Church, especially the stained glass windows. A lot of history amongst the French wars and a nice place to sit and contemplate for a few moments.

Beautiful Cathedral. Very Spacious and bright. Descriptions throughout Cathedral, but nothing was written in English. No English pamphlets available.

The cathedral of Angoulême is very old and the main part is in roman style. But it is still quite big and impressive and nicely decorated with stone statues on the tower. The surroundings are rather quiet with traffic, so you can enjoy everything in a relaxed way. Inside, the white tiles make the church a bit sterile, but there is no entrance fee and a lot of information about the history (ofcourse all in French :-().

This Roman Cathedral has an intricate facade of Roman sculptures that includes scenes of medieval battles.
This unusual and beautiful feature unfortunately attracted would be restorers from the mid XIXth century that then added towers, cupolas and so on.
The interior of the church looks brand new !

Having visited other cathedrals in Europe, I was disappointed to find that the impressive exterior was not continued inside.
