I struggle with my review score, but I think the positives did outweigh the negatives. The resort takes a long time to get to once you are in the country. The resort is small so that's very nice. It has great bungalows, decent internet, its clean and the restaurant menu is very nice. The food is good, the fresh fruits are fantastic, and they have a pretty full bar. The drinks are very inexpensive. You can also get duty free at the airport if you like having a special drink in your room.
I love the open dining area and how nice it is that you can sit with others at the resort and get to know people on a daily basis.
The diving is good, lots to see. But there are some things that they need to improve on. The boats are NOT equipped with any medical supplies, oxygen, first aid, defibrillator, etc. You have to tote your gear through the iron shore onto these wooden boats, that is if the weather has been bad and they have taken apart the jetty. Otherwise, you can use the jetty to get on and off the boat. If you have to get on the boat in another location, it is a long ride in a small open truck to the dive site. It's hot and uncomfortable.
They do not wash your gear for you, they do not label the tanks, they do not even check the tanks very well to make sure the tanks are filled. They charge $8.00 a tank for Nitrox because they do not have their own mixer. They do not keep the wash bins rinsed out and filled with fresh water. So you have to either do that yourself or you have to ask them to drain and fill the bins.
The equipment in the dive locker is rusted so there are some things you cannot use, like the hoses to wash off your camera gear.
There seemed to be a whole lot of people standing around doing nothing most days when they could have been doing even small things to make the dive experience a bit better.
There was one day when things went a bit south on a dive and the boat crew seemed less than concerned about helping the divers. So, fortunately, there were some experienced divers in the group making sure things ended well for everyone.
All in all the trip was good, the staff really nice and helpful. But they certainly need to tighten their diving crew and the way they manage the dive gear, safety, and equipment on the boat etc.

Room tip: The bungalows 14-10 near the pool are the best

Thanks for your review.

Like Tripadvisor states, reviews are personal opinions and in general we respect opinions of our guests and try to learn from the reviews.
But every now and then there are things written down that are factually incorrect, and we feel the need to correct the information given in the review.

- There is absolutely without a doubt, ALWAYS first aid, medical supplies and emergency oxygen on board.
- We mix our own nitrox from medical oxygen tanks.
- All nitrox tanks are labelled, normal air is not.
- Every single tank is checked for pressure before it's taken out of the filling area.

We studied the rest of your review and we will evaluate it with the staff to improve our service.

Regards,

Magic Oceans Team

We loved our stay here. We were here for 7 nights in april 2018. The concept of eating all together at a large table, creates a very relaxed atmosphere. The meals were excellent and the cabins are more than big and comfortable enough. Big bonus was that everey cabins has it's own Wifi. The staff is committed and very helpful. I'm always impressed that everybodu immediately knows your name.

The diving was excellent. The dive centre is well equipped and it's staff is very helpful. We are spoiled divers who like diving in groups of max 4 persons. And that was the only minus: a few days we dived in groups of 6. And 1 or 2 diveguides had a very strict diveplan in their head. Even after we said we wanted to go slowly, slowly and needed time to take pictures, the guide stuck to his diveplan. So we let him and did our own thing.

If you like macro and muck, this is one of the better places to go to. If you like big fish, we haven't seen any. But we love macro so we had a great time and can recommend this to anyone.

We are a dive resort by, and for divers. Sharing experiences at the dinner table is one of the things we and most of our guests really appreciate. It makes it also easy for solo travelers to mingle.
For the people who require a bit more privacy we will of course always set up a private table if desired.

Regarding the dives and the guides, i think you made the right decision. The guides really like to show you all the specials of that dive site, but sometimes people like to spend more time at a specific spot.

Regards and warm greetings from the team!

We stayed here 7 months ago and I’m just now getting around to leaving a rating. Our dive club had the entire Resort with the exception of 2 rooms. All of the staff were amazing! They were very accommodating, honest and helpful. The food was good also! The location was ideal for what we needed.

I spent three weeks in April at Magic Oceans resort, the first week solo and the second two as part of a larger dive group. All three weeks were amazing! This is a dive resort, but it is also so much more that non-divers would enjoy a holiday here too.

First of all, the resort itself is simply beautiful. The resort itself is very well designed to promote a sense of tranquility, and the landscaping is superb. Ever aspect of the resort is clean and well maintained. The guest cabanas are all free-standing, so you have no noise from adjacent rooms. They are very nicely appointed, all with their own private veranda. Some cabanas surround the pool, and others are more secluded, in the gardens and closer to the ocean terraces - all have excellent views. The pool is quite large, for a resort of this size, and was a great place to end up after a day of diving, or if one wanted to take an afternoon off to relax. It was cleaned daily, and is large enough to do some leisurely laps if one wanted to stretch one's limbs or get a bit of exercise. Besides the pool area, which is surrounded by comfortable lounge chairs and umbrellas, there are terraces along the sea wall which are sand covered (not possible to have a beach on a dive resort because it needs to be situated close to reefs), and they offer a very tranquil spot for lounging and observing the coming and going of the dive boats. The bar and dining area are covered, but not enclosed, so one can enjoy the beautiful flowers and trees that surrounds them, and the warm ocean breezes.

Meals in the dining room are served at large group tables, so that one has the opportunity at least three times a day to meet other guests and share tales of dive adventures and travel tips. For a solo traveler, this is especially nice, because one never feels lonely for companionship at meal times. The bar is also a great gathering place before and after the evening meal, again an area designed to facilitate mingling and a sense of a camaraderie with other guests. The staff also make a point of learning what type of music their guests enjoy, and make point to play it in the bar.

The staff are simply excellent. They anticipate your needs and desires before you even think of them, and are always pleasant and smiling, making one feel most welcome and at home. They remember your name, what you like to drink with your breakfast, and what your favorite cocktail is. They remember your favorite dishes, and happily oblige any special meal requests.

The food is delicious, and varied, and always beautifully presented. There is a beach barbecue offered regularly, weather permitting, held at a local public beach, which is an opportunity to participate with local culture in a fun and lively setting, and to enjoy even more delicious food!

Finally, the diving is simply spectacular. Philippines is part of the Coral Triangle, which is planet's epicenter for marine biodiversity, and Bohol lives up to this reputation. The reefs are in excellent condition, and the number and variety of corals throughout is truly breathtaking. The marine life too, is equally impressive, and can be appreciated through any number of different dives along walls, above the reef tops, or in the sandy muck dives. The dive team is superb. The guides and the boat crew are friendly and kind, very professional, and very good at their jobs. The guides managed to keep everyone in the dive group busy with some critter or other, and found all the "must-see" critters for us, included the pygmy seahorses, blue-ringed octopus, wonderpus, mandarin fish, and flamboyant cuttlefish. Sometimes it was difficult to decide where to point my camera!

The dive center is very well designed. It is quite spacious and every diver has their own area for hanging their gear and a box for storage. There are multiple rinse tanks for great, and a dedicated area for camera set-up and storage. There are also three fresh-water showers for rinsing off after a dive, which is very convenient if one doesn't want to go directly back to ones cabana after diving.

The boats are very comfortable, constructed in a traditional Philippines style, and I really liked how the dive gear was kept separate from the lounging area. Thus, one could sit and stretch out comfortably during the boat rides and during intervals because there were no tanks or BCs taking up space. It is very easy to get in and out of the water in these boats, even for people with physical limitations or disabilities. Tea, coffee and fruit was always served at the interval, with a smile.

For non-divers, snorkeling is always an option, but stand-up paddle boards are also available. There are a number of day excursions that can be arranged. There is an evening trip down a river, in the dark, to watch the magical fireflies in their massive colonies, dancing to court a mate. It is a sight that one will never see in North America or Europe. As well, spa services can be arranged, including massage, which I had the pleasure of enjoying on my final day at the resort - it was most welcome after 18 days of diving!

I can't recommend Magic Oceans Dive Resort more highly for anyone looking for a holiday - for diving or otherwise - in the Philippines. It really does stand out as worthy of six stars. If the fortune smiles upon me, I hope to return next year for another three weeks of heaven.

Room tip: All rooms are excellent.

I have just spent a week at Magic Oceans Dive Resort and can honestly say I’ve had an amazing time and sad to be leaving.

From the time of arrival the service and staff have been amazing.

The rooms are detached bungalows, large, clean and all quiet. The beds are super comfortable and the shower is huge. The air con is fantastic and all have excellent Wi-fi.

The staff are superb, they all remember your name and the food was great. They managed to cater for all food requirements ie vegan, vegetarian etc. The variety was immense and service perfect.

The dive school was also fantastic. Huge setup very organised and once again clean. The boats were fab and the boat crew couldn’t do enough for you. My guide for the week was Leanne, she was faultless, her knowledge of the local reefs was second to none. I had some amazing dives and saw amazing macro sea life that I would never have seen had Leanne not been there to point them out.

Overall my stay was amazing and I would like to come back in the future at a different time of year to allow access to different dive sites further out.

Don’t hesitate to book, do it you won’t regret it.
