We unfortunately couldn't stay in the resort as far as we were late in booking but nevertheless had the chance to have lunch and dinner there. Feels like a little paradise with its private beach, staff is extremely friendy, food is very good, strongly recommend it if you look for a quiet place with an incredible charm !

Island View is a very pleasant beachside hotel on the stunning Anda coastline. Rooms are of a decent size and have all the requisite facilities expected of this standard of hotel, although some of the furniture and construction are not of the highest quality.

Hotel location is great if you are looking for peace - you step out from the hotel grounds straight onto a beautiful and often deserted white beach. The hotel is quite isolated, apart from a few similar resort hotels nearby, down a bumpy track from the main road and around 3 km from the nearest small town. If you don't fancy the beach, the hotel has a large swimming pool, and pleasant areas to sit out and relax..

Staff were universally excellent, always efficient, willing to help and extremely friendly, and owner/manager was generally present to ensure all was running smoothly. Breakfasts were good, especially the fruit; dinners reasonable by Philippine standards which means fairly average by world standards.

Overall, Island View is a great option if you want to experience the peace and beauty of Anda and be looked after by a welcoming and friendly staff.

Hi Brazil_R.

Thanks for all the nice things you say about our little hotel, its wonderful location, and our friendly staff. I would, however, like to respond to your comment that the dinners, while reasonable by local standards, were "only fairly average by world standards".

I take that as a fair comment. We are in a very remote location, and even in the larger towns the range of fresh produce and ingredients favoured by international restaurants are hard to come by. We do, however, receive the freshest of seafood from the local fishermen, and we are now growing a lot of our own ingredients. In some cases, because of inferior local produce, we import some ingredients from overseas - spices from Thailand and Cambodia, and Kampot pepper for the restaurant. While we have a way to go, we have come a long way since it was a simple hamburger and taco arrangement. We now have a wide range of cuisines available, and at Philippine, not world, prices.

We are working hard to improve, and there are plans in place for an expanded restaurant with a "world standard" kitchen. I hope you can visit us again next season and see if we are by then above the average on a world standard. We will try to be, and we hope you can come and enjoy the improvements.

Thanks for taking the time to give us your feedback. It is much appreciated. Warm regards from all of us at Island View.

This place was the highlight of my Philippines trip. A quiet, natural hideaway from the noise and chaos. A simple but classy resort -great place to unwind, enjoy, recharge the batteries.

Apart from all the seriously beautiful white beach setting and the activities on offer (I tried kayaks and snorkling...fun) I most enjoyed the tranquility and doing nothing. Quiet walks on near-empty beaches, amazing stars in night sky, eating, nice wines at the garden bar (good jazz playing quietly at nights), going to bed early, no TV's in the rooms. I'm also a fan of their breakfast omelettes (and coffee). Also it had the quietest aircon I've experienced in several hotels in the Philippines - much appreciated.

Thank you Island View ... I'll be back!

Hi Andrew. I think you must be one of those people we had in mind when we conceived the idea of Island View. Our approach was simple: let the natural beauty of the beach, the reef, and the tropical gardens do most of the work; avoid the noise and distractions usually found in mainstream resorts; and, simply add good food, nice wines, and a little dining with jazz after sundown.

Glad you liked what we have here.

Thanks for your generous review and we look forward to welcoming you next time that it is time to "do nothing".

The hotel is really nice and right on the beach so nothing to complain about when it comes to the actual hotel. However, the food is some of the worst that we experienced in The Philippines. We tried both lunch and dinner the first day, but ended up going to other hotels for dinner for the rest of our stay (and yes, you can eat some really good food in Anda). Moreover, we tried a lot of different drinks, but they all ended up tasting like water with different colors. The staff has no experience with mixing a drink. We talked to other guests at the hotel that also ended up going to neighborhood resorts for dinner due to disappointment. We wanted to stay at the resort for drinks and dinner because it is a great hotel and therefore we hope that the management will make some huge changes to improve their restaurant/bar.

Hi Olle,

Thanks for taking the trouble to write a review. And thanks for describing us as, "a lovely hotel right on the beach."

It is always good to get feedback, both good and bad and we do take all guest comments and feedback very seriously, and try to learn from them. You suggest that the cocktails were watery. Frequent guest hangovers would suggest that the problem is probably not caused by a lack of alcohol. However, being in the tropics it happens that ice melts quite fast and, if you drink at a European pace, this may have led to "watery" cocktails. In the past we sometimes used shaved-ice to prepare cocktails and this may have contributed to the problem. Acting on your concerns, in future we will use ice-blocks in place of shaved ice to try to lessen the problem.

We are a small place and we don't import trained "mixologists" from the big cities. Rather, we try to provide employment for local young people. Going by other reviews, most of our guests seem to think that the friendly smiles and genuine effort to please on the part of our staff, along with the low prices (around 2 Euros for a cocktail) trump the homogenous excellence of an international cocktail bar. However, if your drinks were mixed by a trainee, my sincere apologies for any falling-short in professionalism. We are working on improvements all the time, but we are located in a village in the Philippines, not a city in Europe.

You were not happy about the food, but your comment is very general. In order to make improvements, we first need to know which food item you were not happy with. I can see from the receipts that, apart from breakfast, you only tried four dishes, all of which were Asian selections, from the many Filipino, Asian, and International dishes available. A couple of these (like the pork sisig) are acquired tastes,

I believe the staff described the food to you before ordering, and after the meals the staff asked if everything was OK, to which you replied that it was. We have a policy of always replacing the dish if a guest is not satisfied with their order and the staff knows to inform management if meals are not eaten so that we can determine if there was a problem with the food, or if it is just the usual problem of serving over-generous portions.

Unfortunately, in your case, management was not alerted because the staff saw that you ate all the food and indicated that everything was OK. It would help us to make improvements if you could drop us an email to let us know which dishes you were unhappy with, and what the particular problem was.

Please be assured, our free replacement policy remains in place if you are back our way any time, and thanks for trying to help us get better.

Warm regards from all of us at Island View.

This resort is small, quiet, friendly and well-maintained. Take the two hour trip from the airport to be right on the beach in a big room and with nothing to do other than enjoy the garden resort.

Offshore there are fabulous reefs and the water is full of colourful fish, bright starfish and sea urchins. All of this within easy snorkelling from the white beach. There's also a big infinity pool in the resort, with nothing to see but coconut palms, beach and sea. Kayaks and snorkelling equipment are available so there's no excuse for not enjoying the sun, beaches and reefs.

The rooms are big, two-level and comfortable. No television but good WiFi. No need for the TV really as the views are great and the beach long. The furnishings are not the luxury of a 5-star hotel, but there's nothing you could want for (table, chairs, sofa, dressing table and king bed. The bathrooms are also big. One thing I liked was the plentiful supply of towels (for beach and shower) and real soap rather than a bottle of liquid stuff. There's also an outdoor shower for after the beach.

The food and wine is excellent and reasonably priced. Free coffee all day. Some of the food portions are really big, so sharing is an option. The bar is staffed from 10 to 10, and is a pleasant place to sit, next to the pool and have a drink. The upstairs breakfast restaurant is comfortable, with views to the beach, sea and that island off in the ocean and clouds. The restaurant also has a library of books that you can swap out when your book is read.

Don't miss a trip to the tarsier sanctuary.
