Amun Ini really is an enchantingly wonderful resort. Our expectations were exceeded when we stayed here for 8 nights in early February. Fred and his staff were extremely welcoming and we felt genuinely looked after for the length of our stay. A special mention must go to Jeffrey who tirelessly provided excellent service with a smile.

The resort is made up of 16 rooms, an open restaurant/bar, infinity pool, spa, dive centre, grassed relaxing area and private beach.

Our room was spacious, comfortable and very clean with an impressively large bathroom including lots of space to hang our clothes. The resort gardens are just beautiful and extremely well maintained - you have to experience it to truly believe it.

The food here really is exceptional and we ate extremely well. We had a private birthday dinner by the pool with our own waitress and Adrianne's special menu for the occasion was faultless. On a very minor note, we would have generally liked to see more local food on the menu as it is mostly international, leaning towards American in its style.

The dive centre and team who work there are fabulous and the outfit is very professional. We tried another dive centre close by for comparison and Amun Ini won hands down. The snorkelling and diving here are excellent and it's hard to beat what is essentially the clearest water we've ever seen and experienced.

A note on why we gave this wonderful resort four not five stars; the smoking. We found it unbearable at times to have other hotel guests smoking in the restaurant whilst we were eating. For the first half of our stay we were unlucky to have most other guests staying there smoking and it really was off putting. We're aware smoking is now banned in restaurants in the Phillipines (as it has been for years in Australia), so it was unfortunate the resort still allows it. Fred was aware it was an issue for us and did try to accomodate where we sat however it didn't really help and when the owner smokes in the restaurant too, it doesn't help. Maybe a hard one for smokers to understand but it really did interfere with our enjoyment of our time at the resort.

Part of a trip to the Philipines diving and boy did we luck out when we stayed here. The hotel is amazing, the rooms are fantastic with great views and the staff are among the best in the world - friendly and eager to help you get the best out of your holiday. The food in the restaurant is fantastic - when you see the menu you won't know what to choose and to make it even more difficult they have a special available each day to make the decision even harder!! If, like me, you would like something that is slightly different from what is offered on the menu, the staff are more than happy to do that for you. If you don't like dogs however, (we do) then this might not be the hotel for you as there are several hotel dogs that wander freely (it is their home) and apart from one who is a little grumpy (owner Fred will explain why) the others are all friendly and happy to say hi and get a scratch behind the ear. The staff in the dive centre were the best I have come across in any centre I have visited around the world and made sure our dive holiday was amazing. If you are visiting Bohol don't stay anywhere else.

Room Tip: We were on a top floor room which had lovely views out over the ocean

We departed Amun Ini this morning with one regret - we didn't stay long enough

The Hotel overall - closed off from the world in its own little corner with a brilliant beach. The buildings had a luxury feel to them and layout was designed around the view, which is amazing looking out to the ocean. There is not a lot to do here although top of most people's agenda is diving, which is well catered for. The beach is great for lazy days chilling, and the infinity pool has that luxury feel to it with views to match. The restaurant has a wide variety of meals and the quality is excellent, service is equally as good. We used the spa once which was very relaxing and very professional. There are excursions (taziers, chocolate hills etc) but we couldn't move from the beach or pool.

The staff - were brilliant across the board. The waiting on staff were extremely efficient, knew us by name and were professional, friendly and approachable at all times. The office team were extremely helpful in arranging transfers and all our plans worked like clock work. The dive team were excellent and the the dive guides very knowledgeable about the dive sites and finding rare fish. Special mention to Jeffery - I've never met anybody so genuinely interested in ensuring we have a good time.

The food - was varied, tasty, well presented and we felt very confident that it was produced in a very clean kitchen (which we can't say about other places we've visited in the Philippines). All food was al a carte from breakfast to dinner, with a varied menu of both meals and drinks. In 4 days we didn't have time to get round all the dishes we wanted and certainly wouldn't have hesitated to repeat order some dishes.

The diving - was unbelievable! The dive shop was well stocked with decent equipment. The boat was good and there were 3 dives per day. I went on 3 dives in total. The dive sites are very close to the resort and offered something different each time. Great coral, rare fish.

The room - comfy bed with decent pillows, blackout curtains and a massive bathroom, quiet air con, felt luxury enough for us for the limited time we spent in there. There was a nice balcony for chilling in a late afternoon with a beer to take in the ocean views.

Like I said at the start, only regret was not staying longer. The 2 hour drive from Tagbilaran was well worth it.

We have just returned from a repeat visit to what feels like staying with friends at their luxurious yet completely relaxed private villa in exquisite surroundings. Jungle behind you, calm sea in front of you, plenty of places to relax, no crowds, excellent diving facilities if you want them. The atmosphere is seductive; rooms, food and wine - ah yes, the Valpolicella - are all first class. Fred and Karin are perfect hosts and their staff are both unobtrusive and attentive - and always ready with a smile.

I won't go on - you get the picture. There are only 15 rooms at this place. Apart from the diving (about which I know nothing but our daughter and son-in-law are into that and have been here four times so far) there are no "formal" activities available. You must bring books - OK then, a kindle - and allow yourself to unwind. If you must have them Amun Ini can arrange excursions for you, and taxis are easily available for individual exploration of the local area. The star attraction of this place, to my mind, is perfect tranquillity. If this is what you are looking for but you don't enjoy Amun Ini I fear there must be something wrong with you.

Room Tip: All the rooms are identical, and all face the sea, but you are not likely to spend much time in them anyway!
