“Seemed too busy ”
Review of Champagne Pannier

It was a very busy weekend with an event that the business should have accounted staffing for! 2 ladies ran the entire shop- which was very hard for them to do. At times, they were short with customers or didn’t spend at much time explaining the champagne as one would do on a usual day. If it weren’t for the Belleau Wood champagne, I would have left without purchasing anything! It took 45 minutes just to buy one bottle. Maybe next year they will bring on more staff to accommodate wine tastings, tours, and offering purchasing without the long waits. The place looked like a very interesting fun place to explore.

We were just two people for a tour but our guide Miriam was exceptional. In excellent English she explained the process of making champagne as we toured the caves beneath. This was a gem of a find. We turned up on speck but were rewarded with one of the highlights of our holiday. Just be mindful that they are closed over lunchtime. Well worth a visit. Champagne tasting at the end with the opportunity to buy that we couldn't resist.

It was 12 euros for the tour which took about 45 minutes. Our guide was very knowledgeable. There is a lot more to champagne than I realized. We had a little champagne tasting at the end and of course the opportunity to buy some before we left.

We took the train from Paris to Chateaux Thierry and Champagne Pannier was a short cab ride from the train station. The tour of the champagne cave can be conducted in French or English which you can specify when making the reservation on the Champagne Pannier website.

Our group included four people and our tour guide, Eve, was wonderful. She took her time guiding us through the caves and teaching us about the process of making champagne. We learned far more than we expected and she was happy to answer all of our questions (we had many). Afterward, we tasted three champagnes in the tasting room and Eve expertly told us about each one.

There was absolutely no pressure to purchase anything at the end of the experience, but there is a 15% discount if you decide to buy anything. We walked away with six bottles of the most incredible rose that is not available in the US.

We had a fantastic time and I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in learning more about Champagne Pannier and the region in general. We were there in mid-September and there was one other tour scheduled for that day so we were not rushed at all. However, Eve told us that during the summer there are far more tours so make sure to book ahead of time.
