Considering how much of Caen was lost during the war, it is still striking each time we see these homes and the contrast of the modern shops and shopping street below. Locals likely don’t notice them anymore, but they helped us imagine what the whole area may have looked like. If in Caen, it’s worth a stroll by and the street they are located on has loads of shops, restaurants and cafes.

We were in Caen and while touring saw these extremely old buildings. The wooden architecture is most amazing.

This timber-framed building is much more impressive than La Maison des Quatrans. The wooden construction with wood carving ornaments are simply unique!

These houses are one of the oldest of Caen. When we were here last week the left house was under construction behind scaffold, ing. The other one was still visible and very impressive. the woodwork is really nice. There is no entrance to visit the houses, just watch the front in the streets.

It's not easy to miss these houses, as they are right next to the Chateau de Caen. They are the oldest houses in the city, and there's a plaque nearby explaining the history. However, there's not much to see besides to take a quick picture.
