We stayed in Caen for two nights as a base point to do the Normandy beaches and Mont St Michel. The hotel is located in a non-descript neighborhood in Caen, and not in the central part of the city. That was not a problem for us as we were there to not really see Caen, but the other nearby attractions.

The hotel is decorated very modern…a tad gloomy with the dark grays, etc. The real surprise, and a pleasant one at that, was the restaurant. It is 5 star…it has a Michelin star, so the quality of the food was exceptional. We did the “let the chef surprise you” set of courses, which was fun. Obviously, there is a cost to a meal of that quality, but no doubt a fraction of what a multi-course meal at a Michelin rated restaurant in Paris would cost.

The staff was quite friendly and, for those of us English-speaking, had a good command of English.

A few tips: You self park in the small parking lot behind the hotel. Some of the rooms have bathrooms with only showers and some with a bath tub and shower.

The hotel is furnished with high class furnitures and first class amenities however rooms extremely small and if you are on the second floor you must be very careful not heat your head on the walls. The hotel needs a good advise from Human engineer

Room Tip: Do not stay on the floor. and ask for a room not facing the road

I visited the Ivan Vautier hotel as part of a D-Day trip and used the hotel as a starting points for visits to the Pegasus bridge, Quisterham, the beaches etc.

The hotel is located on the outskirts of Caen which comes in handy because you will not get stuck in the downtown traffic. The hotel has it's own parking area.

The rooms are fine and have good beds. A large bathroom complements them.
The real treat is the restaurant with the same name; Ivan Vautier

We dined here 2 nights and it was excellent. From the entree, starters, main course and desserts! The price is somewhat on the high side but well worth it!

Room Tip: Request a room at the back of the hotel instead of the main street

Chose this luxury hotel for its location and to experience the cooking in this michelin starred hotel. We wasn't disappointed with either. Great friendly staff with good english. Soft drinks and beers expensive but we found this throughout Normandy. Would happily return.

Loved it here. This was our base hotel post visit of Mont Saint Michel and for our tour of the Normandy beaches. Parking is included behind the hotel and you have to drive slowly by the hotel to find the entrance. There is a Pizza Bus (food truck) across the street which was delicious and very reasonable which sold wine and beer as well. We did not eat at the hotel but it did seem very popular with locals. That said, there is not a whole lot near the hotel in terms of restaurants; and on Sunday most places seemed to be closed. Recommend a lovely area for dinner called Le Veugaux, many restaurants, but it is a fair walk from hotel. We cabbed it back from Mercure for approx 15€.
