Though tiny, the garden is lovely. If you enter through the small door from the arcade of the Place des Vosges, the first view of the garden and the facade of the Hotel de Sully is a wonderful surprise, so I recommend coming from that direction. The main entrance is more monumental and worth a photo. There appears to be a program of workshops and private guided tours in the interior of the Hotel, so you might want to check that out if you have a serious interest in the 17th and 18th centuries.

This totally unexpected oasis was discovered on a walk around the Marais. It's is so peaceful and calming in the very French garden. You can just wander with no difficulty. The building itself has an example of a 16th century decorative ceiling in situ.

After visiting Maison de Victor Hugo, we were headed for Musee du Picasso. Just after leaving Places des Vosges, suddenly we were inside a yard surronded by great buildings and inside a meticoulusly maintained garden. People were sitting against the walls with their baguette-sandwiches in their hands and there were a few people besides us. This was the garden of Hotel de Sully, which was built in 1630. So old and yet so beautifully protected, we were enchanted by it. The hotel itself is not open to public but you can visit the library and enjoy the beautiful garden.

We popped into Hotel de Sully looking for a toilet ( not one to be found) and came across the lovely garden which is free to stroll through.
It was not busy when we visited and was very present.
You can also access Place des Vosges from here.

We found this by accident and were quite surprised. An excellent garden and magnificent architecture make this little jewel an impressive experience and worth a visit.
