“Loved every minute of it”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

What a fantastic french restaurant. We enjoyed the famous baked chicken for two (could have been for four). We looked at all of their dishes as they arrived at the nearby table and they all looked wonderful. The service is great and they are very welcoming. I highly recommend.

“Disdain and pretentiousness of the service detracts from the food”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

This is my third time to L'Ami Louis and I have come to realize that it does not matter how good food is, if it is served with disdain for the customer. The waiters and the owner do nothing to make you feel welcome. The food is overpriced and $90 for a half order of mushrooms is over the top. Yes the veal was delicious but the poor ambience destroyed my enthusiasm for the food. THere are wonderful restaurants in Paris-so many of them at a quarter the price, equal the food and charming ambience and staff. Gone are the days when we have to tolerate the likes of L'Ami Louis..

“The best escargot in Paris; cute waiters and an irresistible Louis!”
Reviewed July 3, 2013

Chez l'Ami Louis serves authentic, old school French cuisine. If you are looking for tiny portions with few calories and even less taste, or you like to talk about couples who enjoy two (gasp) or more bottles of great wine in a single sitting, eat elsewhere. But don't worry -- you probably can't get into this restaurant or you don't understand it, or worse-- both. The ingredients are carefully chosen each day. I always have the escargot and the poulet. As the name infers, diners are not merely eating at a "restaurant." The décor is pre-war Paris, the walls lacquered with several inches of an eggplant/rust/iron color, topped with several more inches of a shiny shellac substance. But those walls, and the dishes, the mirrors, the tiles and even the coat pegs, have heard the conversations of great leaders of state, artists, models, actors, authors, has beens and those that never will be. I am hopelessly in love with the charm and live theater experience Louis and his merry band of bon vivant waiters give diners. And just to make it all real-- the skinny chips/pommes frites are simply not that good and using the loo/WC is nothing less than simply taking your life into your own hands.

“Such small portions (not)”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

Expensive but great food and huge portions. We had roast lamb, with the smallest, sweetest legs of lamb we have seen in a long time.
