We have been to Paris several times in the last several years, but only based on TA's reviews that we visited Musee de l'Orangerie this month, which is directly across the street from our hotel. Exceptional to say the least. A relative smaller museum compared to its next door neighbors, the Louvre and the Orsay, but totally serene and not crowded in the late afternoon, where we can observe the room sized Monet without obstructed view. We felt like it was a private exhibit. Definitely worth visiting.

You don' t have to be an art aficionado to thoroughly enjoy your visit to this museum. Be sure to purchase the audio guide and your reward will be greater! When you enter the two rooms of Monet's water lilies you will feel the awe and magnitude of this collection. After walking the circular path, sit down, rest, and continue to drink it all in. My reaction was, "Darn, wish we had done the Fat Tire Bike Tour of Giverny (where Monet painted The Nympheas) instead of the trip to Versailles" (the day before). Next time in Paris we'll do that! Also, came home and got out a very old art history book from college days!
We bought the 2 day Museum Pass so we would be sure to have some cultural experiences while in Paris. It "makes" you see places you might not have visited.

The museum is beautiful. Went on a Friday morning when they just opened and it was nice and peaceful. One would go for the rooms of Monet only but then their are renoirs, Cezanne etc. downstairs. The guidebook makes a lovely momento - they were very rude in the gift shop though. Go early and marvel at the Monet.

To sit in such a peaceful setting and watch Monet's pantings is a really moving experience. It is very touching, soulful, meaningful.

We went for free on the first Sunday of the month - the first floor display of Monet's was beautiful! The natural light and whiteness of walls emphasizes the painter's giftedness. There are benches in the middle of the room to sit and take it all in. Overall, the museum is small - we went through in an hour or less. Downstairs there are more impressionist /post impressionist paintings - Even though there were some paintings I enjoyed here, I don't think I would have appreciated paying full price to get in so am glad we went when it was free. Museum Pass is a good deal.
