Stopped here on an orientation tour of Ajaccien and wished we could have stayed longer. The scenery is truly magnificent.

I did an afternoon boat trip to Iles Sanguinaires which was fabulous. On the way over we had dolphins playing next to our boat. Once we docked we had a choice of hiking (or just taking a walk) around the tiny uninhabited island or swimming off the rocks in crystal clear water for an hour. I chose the water and it was amazing! I can highly recommend a boat trip to the islands.

Plenty of car parks (no need to pay outside the summer !). The path is wheelchair accessible and tarmacked for the first part. Preferable to wear trainers on the mud path to walk all around the tower, some parts need a bit of hiking / good balance. There is a cafe between the carparks and the tower.

Going up to the tower provides great views. Quite physical with high stone steps in places, it takes about 15 minutes to reach the top on a leisurely pace.

We were on a bus tour, and we got out and walked maybe 2 miles of easy walking to Iles Sanguinaires. The wide path was very well maintained. Our group was in their mid 80's with knee replacements. No one complained, so I feel it is well worth the walk.

The islands hosts a light tower which was used in ancient times to warn resolution of corsica of pirates. It also used to host a hospital which acted as a place to cure traders coming from Africa of any diseases before entering corsica. There is a boat tour from la parata bus stop. It costs around 17€ for a return trip. You can get down on the islands, stroll around at leisurely pace and go back on the next boat. The boat runs every hour. Though the islands are famous for sunset we could not stay back till then. Last bus to Ajaccio is at 7:30 pm. The bus costs only 1€ one way from Ajaccio to parata bus stop and takes around half n hour
