The service was exceptional! We were there at Easter and although they had a fix menu for the day, when I said that I do not eat lamp, they said no problem and prepaired for me a delicious fish! The starter was also so interesting and unique! The palce was cosy and very very clean. I have no words, I am very happy to have found it!

Sadly, this restaurant demonstrates that good food is not enough to create a successful dining experience. The young Japanese chef here is talented, but the dining room staff were shocking cold, disorgnised and off-handed, and the dining room itself is devoid of charm.

The food at l'asperule certainly deserves one Michelin star if not two. Tasty, beautifull, original and varied. The venue itself and the service are relatively simple and lack the usual rigmarolle of a srared Michelin establishement. We found this refreshing - after all, you come to a restaurant mainly for the food and not for the show. Others may dissagree. The price of the tasting menu (which is the only thing you can have) is very reasonable for the quality of the food. A very good wine list. We had a very enjoyable evening and hope to return.

I've heard about l'Aspérule from friends. . . it's not just that it's great, it's great in so many ways. Part of the delight is that it's just a local place filled with the local crowd. You can have it as a lovely place to hang out with friends. Or, if food is like reading to you, you will be so glad you made the trip, because the gorgeous looking food, serene space and service, the finest or the least pretentious wines, whatever your heart desires and what's all very fine. . . are located in a fantasy space. Wherever you come from, it's a gorgeous drive, Auxerre is an enchanting Gothic town on a river, and Chablis and the edge of Bourgogne, if you're into wine tasting and buying, are within easy distance.

L'Asperule was a wonderful French one-star experience. I had the fixed lunch menu, which was beautifully presented. The tempura octopus was cooked perfectly and melted in the mouth. The crusted veal was delicate and fell apart with the fork. The combination of sides were quite the compliment. A sorbet with fruit provided a light, finishing touch. Service was on point and friendly and with an exceptionally affordable menu, it's well worth a visit to Auxerre.
