Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, the museum is located in a modern building at the edge of the Petit France medieval area. It has a very good collection encompassing 18'000 modern and contemporary art works, augmented by temporary exhibits like the current FAILE by US artists.

The museum contains different rooms. The temporary collection was not my style but the collection are of their fixed collection was very surprising. Nice unique ceramic collection from Kandinsky, Theo van Doesburg and some Picasso works I didn’t see yet.
With a museum pass of one day, you can visit as many museums as you want in one day for only 12 Euro.

At times I am convinced that the French are the world’s worst marketers.

Take French Museums, for example. Someone seems to go out of their way to disguise the entry point, in the hope that pesky and troublesome visitors will stay away.

Take Strasbourg’s Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art for another example. Not just happy with making their entry point invisible, they just decided to close for the day. A Tuesday, a day their website says they will open. They didn’t even bother to tell the staff in their café at the back.

Dear Director of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art,
A simple note on your website might have been enough to alert me, and the dozen or so other visitors that you were closed on Tuesday. Effective communication is such a simple thing. Please try it. Just once.

It's a marvelous building but the art was a let down. Half was closed and what is being exhibited is an eclectic mix of outstanding pieces and a load of naive and poorly executed rubbish.i like contemporary art but it must be expertly executed.
As for the toilets. Omg a beautiful building and 2 out of 3 toilets out of order. The one that worked had no toilet paper and it was so smelly. Shameful.

When entering I was told that the contemporary part of the museum was closed for works, as a result the entrance was half price. As I went for the modern art, this was fine with me. The modern art section starts at about 1900,with many local artists, and ends at about 1960. There is a room dedicated to sculptures by Jean Arp, a native of Strasbourg. The music room by Kadinsky has been created here, including a piano. Mostly work by French artists, or artists who lived in France. No top works, but everything is nicely displayed. There is a special room with works from Doré, the drawings of London are well worth seeing.
