Fabulous food, great location, excellent staff

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 7, 2024
Great location, only a short walk from the main shopping area. Fabulous food, we had a gorgeous dinner the evening we arrived and breakfast the following morning. The room was fabulous, great attention to detail. We were made to feel special. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Will definitely return.

The hotel has a very nice atmosphere (esp around Christmas) with friendly staff. It is centrally located which is convenient. The room has nice decor, comfortable bed. Shower is a bit small but powerful water pressure.

The breakfast was good. The restaurant for dinner was also good.

There is no car parking facilities, I supposed as it’s in the city centre. They do recommend some preferred car parking site.

It is our preferred choice to stay in the cork city and we have stayed there many times.

We booked a classic twin room for 2 nights. The view from the room is absolutely ugly and noisy because of the A/C units working and people working. The room itself is ok and the beds are comfortable. The towels could be bigger: because of the their small size they get soaked rapidly and it is difficult to dry them so you ask for a change which goes against any sustainability concept.

We also had a drink at the bar and the experience was poor: nobody spots you, personnel is either arrogant or incompetent and the Negroni cocktail average. To be noted that the couple sipping champagne across our table had the full attention of the only waiter that seemed more committed to his job than the others.

Quality/price ratio is bad.

Room tip: If you can’t afford more upgraded rooms, don’t book there

We stayed at the hotel from July 7th to July 11th for a family funeral. We were both disappointed during our stay due to a number of issues. Most importantly, we had to park overnight one evening at Merchant’s Key due to their garage being full. We were assured that we would be credited for one night; however, that has yet to occur. Moreover, our room was not ready when we arrived, and we were assured that we would be notified when it was. Alas, to no avail! We have stayed here before on many occasions and regretfully never again.

By far the best hotel stay I have ever had thus far! My husband and I stayed here for our wedding night, and when staff realised it was our wedding day, they upgraded us to the hot tub suite on the house. The room was absolutely immaculate, the bed was incredibly comfortable, and the standard of cleanliness was high. We had a fantastic time using the hot tub and having a drink/snack in the bar downstairs. The food was gorgeous and the service was brilliant. Every one of the staff were fantastic, especially the gentleman who was serving us in the bar that night - unfortunately we didn't catch his name, he wore glasses and had dark hair, he was just superb. We'd like to say thank you to all the staff for making our day so special.
