Great location to tour the Blarney Castle Gardens

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Mar 23, 2013
My husband and I drove over from Killarney and arrived late morning and didn't check in until mid afternoon. We were there on St. Patrick's day so it was very chaotic. The staff was friendly and accommodating, but their hotel restaurant was confusing. They had recently changed restaurant locations; which should have been easy to figure out, but we were confused in the chaos. My husband is Celiac, and while Blarney Wooden Mills Hotel restaurant offers GF items, the restaurant they swapped with had no idea what we were talking about. All of the restaurants were packed which made asking questions difficult. The next day was FANTASTIC, but we started out rocky. The room was great! It was quite and comfortable even though it was St. Patrick's day. If we found ourselves in the area again, I wouldn't hesitate to stay with them again.

I have stayed in this hotel many times and although it may need TLC(carpets/windows),I find it homely and friendly. It is outstanding value for money, about half the price of 4star hotel in Cork city.It is warm, clean and comfortable.Breakfast could have been more imaginative(no fruit or yogurt). The staff, as always, are very helpful. There is a small Gym if you are so inclined.Blarney is a quiet village and I feel happy that there will be no issue with my car as opposed to staying in the city. Christy's bar is the grounds of the hotel where you can have a pleasant meal or a pint.Good choice of options for 2 course meal @€19.95.I dined here and the Quality of food was excellent. There are good options on the hotel website if you stay for 2/3 nights. There is a large department store on site selling top end products.

Room tip: You can upgrade to executive room,if you wish. It depends what you are used to. The basic rooms are fine

The room was old and dated with all mod cons that includes a TV from the ark with every station once they were RTE1 and 2 TV3 and TG4
The Full Irish was bacon egg and sausage black and white and toast with beans ok if they had not been kept warm in a Baine Marie which distorts the whole taste and puts a hot dog flavor on everything.
The evening meal was from a menu something like you would find in a badly run chippy with a Blarney Burger
    fish and chips
    Lamb Shank
    Chicken and Mash
and a choice of either a Starter or a desert
Chrisy's Bar was cold and lacked atmosphere
Could not really recommend this one to anybody .
Have got the same deal from the Towers in Waterford and Arklow Bay in Arklow
they were excellent but sorry to say the Blarney Woolen Mills leaves a lot to be desired.
The location of the hotel is stunning it has to be said, within a stones throw of Blarney Castle and within easy reach of Cork City.

We stayed in the hotel for 2 nights over valentines, although the rooms were a little dated and didn't come with tea making facilities or a DVD player the staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. It was clear that they were changing department (ie a receptionist serving as a waitress) through out the day but were still extremely helpful when outside there own department. On the morning of our departure we requested a late checkout and were obliged with no hassle and no extra cost. The hotel is nicely tucked away in blarney but still close enough to the city, while staying there we went to the drive-thru cinema, mahon point shopping center and the city center; all very accessible with good directions.

We stayed here briefly on our trip to Ireland and were not disappointed. The historic charm of the property oozes from every nook and cranny. The staff was very polite and helpful in the hotel and attached restaurant, which also serves food for take out. Free wifi and parking also added to this hotel's appeal.

The only drawbacks we found were some issues with the water pressure system in the room (often it would slow to a trickle and then moments later come on full blast) and the windows, which had rotting paint and wood all over them. Still, with as old as the hotel building is, these were minor inconveniences.
