Description: Open since 1995, the simple cooking and warm, friendly atmosphere has allowed The Mustard Seed to become one of Inverness’s favourite restaurants. The Location on the banks of the River Ness in a converted church building is simply stunning and helps create the wonderful ambience. The transformation from disused church to restaurant created a unique space; with a double-height ceiling and magnificent open log fire. Many of the original period features were retained and combined with a mix of natural and modern finishes. The addition of the terrace on the top floor allows alfresco dining and uninterrupted views of the River, another amazing asset for the restaurant.

We went one night and food was good overall. My haggis bon bons were good and wife and daughter's food was great. My meatball and pasta could use some more seasoning. Overall a great place with a good view.

Did enjoy my visit but had a few issues during the meal. The setting in the restaurant is quirky and modern and we were greeted by a friendly manager, we had high hopes. Unfortunately the service was quite poor, had to ask for the wine menu a few times, the meals came out too quickly, hadn't received our drinks before the starters arrived and the mains followed within minutes. Further to this, the waitress never returned with our change which was in excess of £20. Would want to see better service on a return visit but on the whole the restaurant was good.

We have eaten here several times over the years and always really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Tonight, though, was pretty disappointing in comparison. We ordered venison with roasted veg and mash, and gnocchi with roasted veg, olives and feta. In each case the veg were barely warm rather than roasted and the massive chunks of lukewarm aubergine just looked amateurish. The advertised olives and feta were missing from the gnocchi dish. Now, in a world like ours, I know these are v much first world problems, so let's keep things in proportion. But I really hope the Mustard Seed takes to heart the issues that we raised with them and return to the standard that used to draw us back there. Don't be complacent or you will lose customers. Don't treat vegetarians as second class customers. To the restaurant's credit, they didn't charge for the gnocchi dish, but there shouldn't have been an issue in the first place.

Food was very average, my daughter was warned the lamb would be rare which is how she likes it. When it came it was well done and very disappointing. The steak was tough. The service was awful. Young girl wearing a chefs jacket hardly spoke to us unless essential. The contrast to the kitchen brasserie is very marked given they are the same company.lovely location looking over the river Ness. The restaurant is very modern and clean.
