Nice hotel in a fantastic location in town, nice staff, room a little small and in need on decoration although clean and comfortable. Tv a little small and remote didn't work! Had drinks in the well stocked bar with lovely views of the river. For the price i would probably try another hotel next time :-(

Room Tip: Ask for the best rooms!

Dear Guest, thank you for taking the time to post a review following your recent stay. Pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay and found the team to be pleasant. All our bedrooms are of different sizes and standard. Unfortunately the TV's are all the same size in all the bedrooms, however I will note down your comments. I do hope that our Reception Team were able to replace your remote control to remedy it not working. We do hope you will allow us the opportunity of redeeming ourselves of returning the in the near future. When re-booking please speak to our Reservations Team so that we can allocate you a room which is more spacious. Delighted that you enjoyed the views of the river enjoying a drink from our bar. Beautiful view.
    Kind regards
    AP and Team Columba

Over ten weeks I have stayed in a number of Inverness hotels and this is in my opinion without a doubt one of the worst. As reflected on other reviews it is run down and seriously needs some investment. Aside from the run down corridors, horrendous view from my window of a filthy alley (see photo), bar staff also persist in regularly dumping large quantities of glass bottles outside making enough noise to wake the dead. The TV in my room requires opera glasses to see it is so small and the water pressure in the shower is akin to a watering can held aloft and pointed downwards. When requesting a change of room I was advised "well you have booked a standard room sir" (£110 a night). So dark rooms, noisy, poor showers, poor TVs, poor sleep are standard for £110. I have never put a review on here before but felt compelled to save you and your money from this place. Be warned.

    Dear Guest,

Thank you for posting a review following your recent stay. Please accept my apologies for such a disappointing stay. The Hotel has been since bought buy another company and we will be looking into the condition of the Hotel and looking at the areas to concentrate on first. It is a victorian building with all our rooms of different sizes with different views. We have many happy guests who enjoy their rooms and stay with us on a regular basis and on this occasion I truly apologise that we did not meet your expectations. I will speak to our Reception Team as if a guest doesn't like their room for whatever reason, we do try to offer an alternative, if available. I am sorry that your view was of the side of the Hotel. Unfortuantely it is only our front facing rooms which have a view of the River Ness and Inverness Castle. I will speak to the bar/restaurant next door regarding their staff emptying bins late at night as we don't empty our bins for that very reason as we appreciate all our Guests are asleep. We wait and our bottles are emptied after 9am every morning.
Once again, please accept our sincere apologies for such a disappointing stay.
    Kind regards
    Columba Hotel

Booked 2 nights here in April '15 for my girlfriend's 30th birthday. Neither of us had been to Scotland and we'd both wanted to see Loch Ness (and Culloden Moor for me) for a long time. Got a decent deal for a 2 night stay and reading the pretty good reviews convinced us to give it a go.

Paying to park down the road wasn't ideal but didn't exactly break the bank either. Our room was large and clean so no worries there, although our view was on the inside of the hotel so a flat roof, other windows and a vent (presumably from the kitchen or boiler room) greeted us. Again, this didn't bother us as we came to sightsee, not sit in the room!

Bathroom was clean, facilities worked fine and the bed was comfy. I agree with some reviews about the decor being a bit tired and shabby in places and the breakfast wasn't great. We were seated promptly and there was lots of it, it was just a bit bland. The Wifi also dropped out regularly but was fine in reception so at least we could use it. In all our interactions with them, the staff were friendly and helpful throughout.

All in all it was a perfectly good base to explore the beautiful Inverness and we'd happily come back for another stay.

It certainly is a beautiful city with lots to do. Disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy the breakfast and I am sincerely apologise for that. Let's start with the positive, this hotel has a fantastic location and great view of the castle. That's about it.

We arrived for our two night stay and were greeted by a receptionist who, although very pleasant, was mostly useless. By her own admission she was very hard of hearing and we had to shout the name three times before she registered it - not her fault so we moved on. What was her fault though was failing to explain pretty much everything it turned out we needed to know about charging food/drink etc. to our room account. More about this later.

The bedroom was very tired and run-down. The walls were stained and damaged, the bathroom was long-overdue a revamp and was pretty dirty, and our bedsheets were torn and damaged. The restaurant and bar facilities are soulless - although in fairness, effort has clearly been made to drag them into the 21st century.

The staff at Columba were a mixed bag, some helpful and enthusiastic, some utterly terrible. This culminated in an argument with a barmaid who refused to charge a drinks round to our room on the grounds that we didn't have the necessary documentation with us for this - which would be fair enough but for the fact that the useless receptionist had not explained the need for this document to us when we checked in - not to mention the fact that no one had asked for the paper up until that point. And that's not to mention the middle-aged waitress who took great delight in telling us how hungover she was when we arrived for breakfast on the final morning.

Check-out was also a farce, with Useless Receptionist Number 2 unable to adequately explain how they calculated the final bill and how this coincided with the £50 they had taken from our account when we checked in, which Useless Receptionist Number 1 had also not explained (nor indeed asked permission to do so).

Our stay included a three-course meal as part of the deal we got for the reservation, the dinner was ok - by no means fine dining but no real complaints. Breakfast on the other hand was interesting to say the least. A self-service hot buffet which will go down well with anyone that enjoys eating dried out sausage with the consistency of a sponge, black pudding with physical properties more like a digestive biscuit, and bacon with salt content so high your doctor would have a fit.

All in all, a pretty terrible establishment, marginally saved by its central location and view.

Room Tip: Don't choose a room here.

A fantastic little hotel right in the heart of Inverness city. Clean, does everything well without being pretentious. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast good choice including fruit selection and dinner at restaurant extremely good value for money. Free wifi. Very accomodating especially as we had a 9 month old baby in tow. Only downside was no parking but paid parking at £4.50 per day available 3 mins walk from hotel
