Owner description: The Edinburgh Dungeon is the scariest, funniest journey through Edinburgh's darkest history; a unique, award-winning visitor attraction that brings together an amazing cast of theatrical actors, special effects, 360 degree sets and 2 thrilling rides in a truly unique and exciting walk-through experience that you see, hear, touch, smell and feel. It's hilarious fun and sometimes a bit scary. Shows are based on real Scottish history, minus the boring bits!

I would have enjoyed this more if there wasn’t so much waiting around and it wasn’t so busy - I appreciate thats not the attractions fault though. The actors were good but i was hoping for some more history of Scotland linked in but it was pretty much make believe and aimed at kids. I enjoyed it but i think go with kids and/or go when its quiet.

Hi Lucy, really sorry about the waiting time you had. Appreciate it's not the most enjoyable thing to do. All our stories are based on actual history.

Extracts of history woven into a fun and scary tour round the dungeons. Don’t do this if you’re expecting history or if you’re a misery guts!

Character actors, sound effects and creepy lighting bring the darker side of Edinburgh's history to life.
Be prepared to participate!

Great review Mike! We're all about audience participation in the Dungeon - we're not going to torture ourselves, are we!

A great laugh with some silly fun and enough scares to make it interesting. You get to learn a bit of history and about some interesting characters who came from the Edinburgh area. We visited with our children age 9 and 11 - the youngest found the boat ride the scariest but was still glad he did it! The drop ride is only for adults and older kids (taller than 1.4m I think) - it was quick but good fun, and they take a photo of you just as the moment it drops! A good couple of hours of fun, be prepared to join in - especially if you get picked out by one of the characters to be 'tried' or 'tortured'!

Thanks for your great review! We spend a good few hours at the end of each day laughing at photos of people on that ride!

My other half has never been to a dungeon, so he was eager to try it out because I've been to many.
Was as fun as always, we both ended up being pulled out of the crowd so that added a little fun.
Good value for money.

Thanks Gem! Glad you're bringing more peasants along with you to experience the Dungeon. Always welcome back - we've got a new fringe show over August and an extra scary show at Halloween!
