I can’t believe I have lived in Edinburgh my whole life, pass the Old Chain Pier everyday and only just tried it yesterday! I feel like I’ve been missing out the whole time as we had such a nice lunch.

We were seated up at the top windows looking out at the sea. The bar was nice and cosy, there was music on and the staff were welcoming.

We got fish and chips, burger and chips and nachos. Everything was lovely. The standout for me were the nachos. They had generous amounts of cheese and all the condiments too, plus they tasted really fresh.

For desserts we got two white chocolate cheesecakes and a sticky toffee pudding. The cheesecake was to die for! I often find white chocolate cheesecakes lack in the white chocolate flavour but these were rich in it and beautiful. The sticky toffee pudding was really nice too, the cake part was light and fluffy and the sauce had plenty flavour.

Our waiter was a really nice guy and was welcoming and helpful for the duration of our visit.

Everything was great and we can’t wait to come back!

My friend and I popped in for coffee and cake. The restaurant was busy and we were invited to sit on bar stools which we were happy to do. We were half way through our coffees and still no sign of cake. We asked the man who had served us if we could get them and he said he had already asked his colleague to serve them. They arrived a few minutes later without apology or a smile. We ordered 2 further coffees then once we could get his attention paid and left. I do appreciate that they were busy but it doesn't take time to give occasional eye contact and convey a degree of friendliness and appreciation of custom. The coffees were ok and the cake adequate but at £3.00 for each coffee and £5.00 for a small unadorned piece of cheesecake I thought it a bit pricey. Oh yes, the views of the Forth and Fife are excellent. It's a working environment that you would think the staff would look a bit happier in. They didn't even seem to be getting on with each other!

Been here twice recently and on both occasions the final bill has had a number of extra drinks on it. Not sure if it was an error???

Thank you for your review. We can only apologise for the bill mistake but a combination of human error and technical issues can result in incorrect bills. We always encourage staff and guests alike to double check bills before payment.

We arrived without a reservation and that seemed to make the hostess unhappy, though she was able to seat us. The food was hot, very tasty, and plentiful. We probably had 3 or 4 people bringing us drinks and food, which made it a little difficult to figure out who our waitress really was.

The views were splendid!!

Would still go back, even though the service left a bit to be desired.

Thank you for your review.
The Old Chain Pier is a busy venue and we always advise customers to book in advance to ensure accommodation. This however does not always happen and it can be somewhat stressful to accommodate everyone. We work very hard to provide the highest quality of service to all guests, regardless off reservations and apologise if you felt unwelcome. We work as a team here and hope that you appreciate that we all work together to ensure a comfortable experience for our guests.
We look forward to your return visit and hope you find the experience more enjoyable.

Booked a table for two at the old chain pier. Edinburgh. We’re seated at our table by Lisa who was very friendly. She gave us the menus to look at and took our drinks order. Leaving us to talk whilst we viewed the menu. We decided on the fish and chips and the chicken, ham and leek pie. Once ordered the food was freshly cooked and came out to the table about half an hour later. It was definitely worth the wait. The pie was full of chicken and was lovely and moist with just the right amount of sauce. The veg was cooked to perfection. The fish was excellent batter was thin and crispy with no grease the chips were proper chips thick and crispy. Lisa came back to check if everything thing was ok with the food twice during our main course. A very good level of service after main we had desert I chose the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. We asked if we could have just ice cream even though it’s not on the menu again this wasn’t a problem. Very good service and food would recommend to anyone. Will be going again but next time when booking will ask for a window table so we can look out over the forth.
Brilliant restaurant and staff. Thanks for an enjoyable evening at a very good price. Think I will try mac & cheese next time.
