Quite simply, everything you could want in a pub. Incredible whisky collection, great atmosphere, friendly staff, and even old fashioned porcelain toilets. Never had a bad experience and would highly recommend a drink there.

Love this pub. I've been visiting Dundee for about 45 years and this pub has never changed. Dark wood panels everywhere. Great looking mirrored bar. I've never known it to be quiet. Always buzzing, shoulder to shoulder, hardly ever a seat to be had [and there's not a lot of padding on them], but never much of a cross word. The Tennets lager has always been good and not too expensive. The staff are friendly and smart and get to you as soon as they can. Even the local MP was in.

This is a corner bar pub from a long time ago, although there is very little left, except the toilets , from pubs gone by! The toilets here are famous because the gents is a hymn to Victorian polished brass and white tiles, and the ladies is a single cubicle with a capacity of one person, tucked away in a dark corner of another room. The pub itself has a unique feature lent by Dundee and history. Its two street numbers, 165 and 167, should be opposite number 164, the usual way of numbering streets in Scotland being evens on one side, and odds on the other. 164 Perth Road is another pub, nowadays called the Orwell, and can be found about a mile away and much nearer town. This is possibly the only aspect of the place that makes you dizzy and confused for free. All the ways of having a legal chemical holiday are available here and most are in good quality versions, with plenty of brand choice, and fairly up market parlour surroundings.
The best reason to visit must be the human angle, though. The staff are friendly, the customers range from eccentric to positively rugby club, but everyone manages to hold onto their civilised politeness, no matter what their team did this week. I would call them a real cross section of the Scots public, even though many are not Scots at all, and those that are might object to being called 'cross'. A couple of hours will often get you a seat, a comfortable pint or a civilised whiskey, and a conversation.
