Visited on Saturday 18th August for takeaway fish and chips and the 2 guys behind the counter really couldn’t care less about the service, no smiles just indifference to customers stopping by.......fish and chips were not great and dripping with oil. Really disappointing,

I think the Tail End in St Andrews need to do a random check of this place occasionally, just send in a mystery shopper to bring you some food. It’s like a totally different eating experience. A real shame as the St Andrews shop is incredible, staff are super friendly and just a better atmosphere.

Visited with my family for a fish & chip tea - I enjoyed it but was surprised that they fried the fish and chips in beef dripping. Surely, for health reasons and also to appeal to a wider audience, try a vegetable oil? Pity the poor vegetarian who craves a poke of chips and this is their local chippy! At least they tell us, I suppose!
Fish was good, fish cakes were also a hit with my Dad and my mum enjoyed the salmon pate from the specials menu that day.

Visited prior to going to the theatre. The service was professional and friendly and nice atmosphere in the restaurant. The fish and chips for both of us and it was a good sized portion. It was well cooked and the batter was nice and crisp.

This is my second time at this restaurant and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time the food is fantastic and the staff are very friendly, the design of the place is very rustic and unique completely different to anything we have seen there are gluten free options for those who require it, highly recommend this restaurant i believe there is one in Edinburgh but there are two - Dundee and St Andrews.

We were trawling Trip Advisor to see if there was somewhere we could get good fish and chips in Dundee and noticed that The Arbroath Spinks have opened up as 'Tailends' in the Nethergate, where the old favourite Deep Sea Fish Restaurant used to be. We like the one in St Andrews and have been there many times ... so we thought to give Up-And-Up Dundee a try. Fair to say, we were not disappointed. The food was right up to the usual standards, though we were seated close to the toilet area and felt just a tiny bit claustrophobic there. Then somebody, sited pretty near us, ordered and was brought mussels and chips (£9.95 to sit in) and, unfortunately, the whiff of the fishy brine they are delivered in was a bit overwhelming in such an enclosed area. However, we will be positive and when and if we return there we will sit down only if the splendid other bits of seating in the restaurant are free. Important to say, the staff were wonderfully attentive during our visit.
