I cannot recommend this hotel more. It is by far my favourite and I look for any opportunity to go back.
Staff really friendly and helpful, great cocktails, beautiful rooms, but by far the highlight for me was jazz band in Bert's Bar, The Sazeracs, and in particular Kyrin Burke. They were fabulous and can't recommend them highly enough. Will try to plan my next trip around when they are playing in Bert's Bar. I hope the Merchant have them as a regular show.

I cannot praise the Merchant Hotel enough for their hospitality, organisation, thoughtfulness and warmth. The quality was superb. Our daughter's wedding day was everything she dreamed it would be and more. Wonderful facilities, wonderful food and a wonderful staff. I cannot recommend the Merchant Hotel highly enough
From the minute you step into the lobby you are made to feel really special, nothing was,too much trouble. Our room was so comfortable and spacious. Every member of staff deserves a reward they were so friendly and attentive. Dinner in both restaurants was amazing.Woukd definitely recommend for a,special event or if you just want to spoil yourself.
A taste of luxury! Nice check in experience with friendly staff. We were in the Victorian style rooms - huge room with beautiful bathroom. Amazing beds. Loved the old time decor. Iron, kettle, hairdryer, etc all available. We needed milk and extra teabags and they left them straight up to the room for us when we called down to reception.
Room was a little cold and we couldn’t get it warmed for a few hours; a staff member had to come up and show us the trick to the heating to try to heat the room faster.
Bathrobes and slippers in the room so you can get ready in your room for the steam room, sauna and outdoor hot tub. We had a slight wait for the hot tub. Gym facilities were adequate.
We had cocktails in the cocktail bar which was a great experience. Overwhelming choice of cocktails but advice was offered by the staff. A little expensive but to be expected in this hotel.
Breakfast was phenomenal in the Great Room. A highlight of our stay.
Really relaxing night away and hoping to come back next year, but would request for the room to have the heat ready for us upon arrival next time if we were staying in winter.
Wow! The Merchant Hotel is absolutely amazing! The service was impeccable from the moment we arrived. We were promptly assisted with check-in, and we arrived before our room was ready and had scheduled tea, so we were shown to a place where we could change. We then enjoyed a splendid afternoon tea! After tea, our room was ready for check-in, and we were so impressed! The room and bathroom were incredibly large, and the style was beautiful! We had dinner at the hotel as well. I did the tasting menu, and my friend did the vegetarian tasting menu. Everything was delicious and presented beautifully!!! We cannot say enough amazing things about The Merchant Hotel, and we hope to return in the near future!
Arranged night away with friend as wee pre-Christmas treat. Lovely staff, lovely room, lovely bars. However dinner was a big let down. Evening dinner menu very limited. No vegetarian menu offered - although got one on asking. Crab starter mediocre, only 1 fish course offered (salmon which I do not like) but on asking a sea bass portion was offered. Not very good I’m afraid, cold, accompanying veg very uninspiring, only new potatoes were hot. Friend’s duck was of the same ilk- not good. So disappointed. We ordered the cheese board to finish, where were the local cheeses? Could have been so much better. The good staff & beautiful room let down by poor cooking and menu. Breakfast followed suit. Why not invest in a buffet table for continental self-serve rather than have to order the museli /cereal at the table? This would be a better process. Cooked options again poorly executed. We had to wait for a table to become free, which we didn’t mind as we were not in any hurry, but process could be better. This experience could have been epic but missed the mark. Invest in the menu choice and quality and we will love you.
