We took a tour of the murals from Crumlin Road Gaol on 30/8/22, our driver was Isaac. We had a really good trip, Issac was knowledgeable and explained things from both perspectives, which we really appreciated. He went the extra mile to give us a good tour.
Seeing all the sites and sights and getting a good history lesson in comfort.
Isaac our driver knew his stuff and was polite, friendly and diplomatic.
We booked a political tour on advice from a friend and were glad we did. Charlie took us around the neighborhoods most affected by The Troubles. He offered the history behind key sites and murals. While most of the tour touched on the sad, violent realities of those times, Charlie was sure to point out the hope of a peaceful future. He had markers for us to sign the Peace Wall. The tour is illuminating and time well spent while in Belfast.
As an American, it’s so hard to appreciate what the Troubles mean. I worried it was “too soon” and might feel disrespectful to take such a tour. But our driver was very candid about how even though he’s lived through a lot, he is passionate about educating visitors. He acknowledged the impossible nature of being objective. But he took us to see the murals and memorials in Unionist and Republican neighborhoods. The difference in how each side still perceives the other is striking. We were surprised to learn the walls have only gotten higher since the Good Friday treaty - but peace has remained. All in all, it was a very moving and educational experience.
This tour is a must for first time visitors to Belfast! Wow! We were blown away by the information. Steve, our guide, provided us with firsthand history while remaining completely impartial. Do not miss this wonderful opportunity.
Bobby Walsh was our driver and guide for a ten day private tour along the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland. I cannot say enough good things about Bobby. He combined humor, local knowledge, and efficiency to make our trip a delight. He relates well with everyone, and had us laughing much of the trip. We had a wonderful time! Our entire group appreciates Bobby’s top-notch skills as a guide, and his great personality. We will miss him, and Ireland!
