Four of us. Two couples had lunch today to celebrate a birthday. The service was good. The food, especially the fish and chips was excellent. We ate in the bar where there were several couples with dogs. We are dog lovers but do object at staff fussing a dog and then handling cutlery food etc. immediately afterwards. I do hope that time was taken to wash hands in between.

Have been here a couple of times for lunch and always find it a homely atmosphere with good sandwiches. Came for a rare dinner out tonight and had a lovely two course meal... really good quality, homely food with a modern twist. Nice setting and welcoming service. Don’t expect a polished restaurant atmosphere- this is about rustic, quality pub dining, but we were delighted with the experience and will come again next time we get an opportunity!

We went here twice - mainly because the first time was SO good. On the first visit we weren't sure what to expect but the food was fabulous and the waiter was very attentive; he made us feel very welcome. We were so impressed we booked again.
Not such a good experience this time - I asked for some Balsamic vinegar in my oil instead of white wine vinegar and was told this could not be done as they 'don't do that here'. This was strange as that was what I had on the first visit and a bit inflexible. Again food was good but not as good as on the first visit-same for the service.
I would have happily given 5 stars based on the first visit but dropped it to 4 because neither the food or the service was as good on the second visit.

Really good country pub meal that was tasty and reasonably priced.
Thick walls, wood fire, traditional country pub with good menu and impressive house red wine too.
Friendly professional service and nice mood music, correct lighting to back up the main event - the food.
Stilton liked flat mushrooms followed by pork with triple cooked chips with black pudding fantastic, even sneaked in apple pie and custard before leaving. Driving so didn’t even sample the ample bar offering.......Don’t tell anyone - keep this place our secret!!! Shhhh.

The first time we attempted to eat here was on a Sunday, only to be told that it was bookings only. No where does it state this!

The second and third time we arrived late afternoon, only to be told that they were not serving food. Baring in mind there is an external sign that states ‘food served all day’, or something along those lines.

The place looked dirty, as if the floors had not been brushed for a few days.

This is such a shame as it used to have a really good reputation - where did it go wrong?

Needless to say, we won’t be back.
