Went to the afternoon showing on Saturday of Birdsong - A great show which we would thoroughly recommend to others in a delightful theatre.

I'm not sure if the other reviews were watching the same cast as us when we went to the show on Saturday - their final night. The lead was shockingly wooden which we all grasped at his first line. Far too young and inexperienced for the role. I think he was trying for aloof but boy he didn't achieve it. The rest of the cast pulled him along fabulously. Where was the man on the flyer ???? If you are planning on seeing this check the cast first !! Bit hesitant to buy again at this theatre which is a shame.

Thank you for the review. We are disappointed that you didn't enjoy the show as much as all the other reviewers seem to have. No cast was named on the flyer as it can change. I do hope you will visit again where your experience will be more positive and enjoyable.

A gripping production. Superbly acted in one of our loveliest theatres.
Dinner at Cote prior to our trip. As they are aware of your going to the theatre you are looked after very well.

Last week we went to see Birdsong at the Theatre Royal Windsor. It really was an excellent experience. The staging and set was very cleverly handled to cover the two main settings of the story, namely the trenches of WW1 and a pre-war setting in rural France. The acting was terrific and the whole production was passionate and moving.

We've been to this theatre many times and it is a beautiful place. We sat in the front stalls (as usual) and felt completely immersed in the action which was just a few metres in front of us. Hard not to have a tear in the eye at the end or to reflect on the futility of war and all those lives lost 100 years ago. Well done to everyone involved, especially the cast.

Great acting, not just from the leads. It was moving and thought provoking, with a solid sense of realism and suffering alongside the story line. The book, I am told, is excellent too.
