Owner description: Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world and offers an extraordinarily rich and varied day out. Throughout its history, the Castle has been redecorated, enlarged and rebuilt. Today The Queen spends most of her private weekends at the Castle, which is also used regularly for ceremonial and State occasions. Your ticket to Windsor Castle includes entry to our exhibition Waterloo at Windsor.

Come to Windsor, tour the castle. Loads of stuff to see on royal heritage as you would expect. Between 10:45 and 11:00 and 11:30 and 11:45 guard changes on the Main Street. If you are driving avoid Main Street at these tunes as the road is blocked to allow for the procession.

Take a walk along the Thames, loads of shops for our better half and sweet treats for kids abound at the many eating venues. But please don’t stop in the street to take photos, I am a local and often have to stop m car abruptly to avoid a photographer taking a selfie in the middle of the street.

A worthwhile walk is to go along the “long walk”to the deer park, no cycles and lovely for kids and dog walkers.

If you cycle there are great cycle tracks around the windsor great park.

A beautiful historic place to visit and go on a guided journey through history and get to see royal belongings and rooms the Queen uses today.

Pre-book online or risk of queuing for a very long time
Airport type security but more intense .... as you would expect
Be prepared to take off jacket, footwear, belt, watch and anything metal.
You don't get the sense of a residential royal palace/castle, more of a portrait gallery and museum of fine chna and armoury.

Firstly, buy your tickets online and you will save time and boring queing, especial when it is wet and cold or extremely hot.

Next, think security. You will need to remove jackets, coats, shoes/boots with metal zips, watches, etc ..put all your coins, and other metal objects including you phone in your jacket pocket so you only need to hand the jacket over with all your stuff in its pockets ...this process can hold you up for an hour!! Don't knock it, your are safer and protected.

Not much to see from the outside but think pigeon poo on the walls, when you look over the ancient parapet ...ket your hands off the wall and bring some wipes!

All uniformed staff are friendly but they'll be on to you if you don't obey the rules.

The castle is absolutely impressive. Very well preserved and it's huge. It would take an average of 2-3 hours to see it all. Also, very important to book the tickets online. The lines can be very long, especially on weekends. Other than that, it's absolutely worth the money and time.
