Review of BBC Newcastle Tour 03/04/2018

After meaning to book this for about 7 years for my now 18-year-old son, decided to bite the bullet and make the trip this Easter before he disappears to University never to be seen in the North East again (if he gets his way)
We arrived as per instructions 15 minutes before the allotted time of 10.30 am, plenty of car parking available, and a warm welcome when we reached reception. Despite the website saying there were no cloakroom facilities we could use lockers to store coats while wandering round the building.
Our Tour was aimed at adults but a couple of well-behaved children also attended.
Jordy and Simon gave a welcome talk, including the all-important fire safety rules and where the restroom facilities were. Then we embarked on our tour, first stop the History of BBC Newcastle, an informative timeline display and talk from Simon to get us all feeling warm and fuzzy about the North East’s contribution to the BBC.
The next stop was the archives, which was very informative, regarding the processes involved in storage and WHY we they keep them.
After brief stops to look at sets not in use etc, we entered the main Look North Studio, where by surprise we were joined by Colin Briggs, who instantly took over. This was unexpected and Colin took a lot of time with young and old alike. The main set was obviously the star of the studios being the largest, but very interesting that not many operators are needed these days to put out a TV programme.
Most of the other studios are small but perfectly functioning and we gained lots of information on how hard presenters work on a day to day basis.
The tour was also given the chance to be TV presenters and even put on a Radio Play, which got everybody involved. Don’t bother turning up if you won’t participate, it is meant to be interactive.
We still had time to play a kid’s game which was normally reserved for the children’s tours, we obviously didn’t ask enough questions!
A thoroughly enjoyable experience and highly recommend if you’re in the area.

Hi
Thank you so much for your fantastically detailed and positive review, Jordy and Simon will be chuffed to hear that you both enjoyed yourselves so much! Colin Briggs will be gutted to hear it is our set rather than him that is the star of Look North :-)
A lot of our BBC Tours locations do not have lockers and/or parking, hence the wording our guests receive along with their tickets when booking. We are lucky in BBC Newcastle to have a small cloakroom area and some parking spaces; but as the News is ever changing we can promise parking spaces and we only have a few lockers available. Our tours at times can have 40 guest on one tour, so there is not enough space for us to say we can provide a cloakroom and parking for certain.

Thank you so much for coming and I hope your soon does return to the North East we need to keep our talent here! Best of luck to him, who knows hopefully he will be the next star of our Look North team!

Hello

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our tour, I am so happy to learn that you had a great time.
Victoria and Simon tell me that Paul Mooney should be looking over his shoulder as you were that good at presenting the weather too!

Hope to see you again

What an excellent family day out!! Not usually one to leave reviews, but felt I had to after the experience my family and I had on Saturday. We were shown around by Jordy and Lynn, who were very enthusiastic and knowledgable. Although we booked into the adult trip they both went out of their way adapt the tour on the fly to add kids elements (sitting on the set of Hetty Feather and playing a few games in the cBBC section). The tour culminated in my daughter presenting the weather in a special edition of Look North - which blew her mind as she has ambitions to become a meteorologist. Again huge thanks to Jordy and Lynn - you guys were fantastic.

Hello Niall
Wow we love this review! thank you so much!
We love our jobs here at the BBC and inspiring the next generation is one of our main hopes by providing the studio tours; so to hear that we have achieved this goal and that you all had such a great day out too, really makes our day!
The BBC tour you booked is aimed at all ages, but as you say we do have a Children's Tour including CBBC programmes so hopefully we will see you again for that one!
Jordy and Lynne will be 'over the Paul Mooney' (weatherman joke) to read this review!

Thanks you so much for your visit and we wish your daughter every success in fulfilling her career dreams.

We visited with 15 8/9 year old children who are part of our school journalists club. This tour exceeded our expectations in every way. Our two guides pitched everything perfectly, engaging the children with the interactive activities. They explained the history, and the way the radio/TV programmes are made in such a way it was easy for the children to understand.
The studio visits thrilled the children. Then meeting Colin Briggs in person and the fact he was patient enough to explain his job and answer lots of questions was the icing on the cake! What an engaging and lovely man he is!
The time just flew by. The children even got to dress up as if they were in a children’s programme and act from a script, and became TV, sports and weather presenters!
Thank you so much for making this an absolutely brilliant morning. You have really inspired our children!

Hi Gillian

WOW!! what a really lovely, positive and touching review, I cant thank you enough for taking the time to leave it.

Simon and Lynne (your guides) and Colin will be over the moon to hear that you all enjoyed your visited and that your young budding journalists are inspired to keep on reporting!! FANTASTIC!

Oh your children may also enjoying knowing...your school is officially the bravest tour group in the North East as you defeated the 'BEAST FROM THE EAST' to get here, and were the only tour that made it last week!
We are therefore so much more pleased to hear that you all feel our tour is well worth getting snowed on!

Thanks so much

We had a great time! The tour was fantastic – I have had some friends asking how they can book and pointed them in the direction of the website.

My kids (13 & 10) loved it! It gave a great insight to what goes on behind the scenes.

Our guides (Tony and Simon) were very funny and kept the kids entertained. We got invited in to the radio station whilst on air and the presenter took time to answer questions.

Can totally recommend this tour!!!

Awh thanks so much Lee-Ann for these lovely words.

We are so glad to hear all the family enjoyed the visit! How lucky you were that Sue Sweeny asked the tour group in to her studio too!

BBC Tours Newcastle really appreciate you spending time to leave this great review and for you to recommend friends too is high praise and fab!

Thanks so much.
