We have been here a few times now when visiting Newcastle and have always had a good time. There is a good selection of gins (have to recommend Tarquin’s) and cocktails as well as beers and cider. We have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. I like the roof terrace, although this time the rain kept us inside.
This time we had a snack – the ham hock terrine with piccalilli – and it was delicious.
It is a bit out of the way but near to the train station and the O2. We will definitely head back.

I can't express how dreadful this pub and the food was. Disinterested staff, terrible food (Sunday roast - tepid, cold, tough meat, uncooked leeks, fish and chips over battered and overcooked to point of being burned), sour smell about the place and no soap in either male or female toilets. Staff not interested when complaining. Other diners there at the same time had same complaints about the food.
Do not cross the threshold.
I have never written a review like this before but felt compelled to do so to warn other diners about this place. Avoid like the plague. Truly appalling.

Girls out shopping, fellas out drinking, we couldn't find this place so one of them had to come & find us, if the station is behind you walk to the left up past Greggs & hey ho there it is. It had a huge bar area with plenty of staff serving & was really popular, the appeal for us was the outside terrace upstairs, whilst not huge it was lovely sitting in the sun enjoying our drinks, only downside was none of us are smokers so we had to tolerate a bit of passive, not totally within the pub's control, many customers were there for the James concert so lots of laughter & banter, great atmosphere & nice first visit.

Popped in here for a pint after Newcastle's home match v Derby a couple of weeks ago with 2 mates of mine. Not a usual of mine, but one of the lads suggested it. As soon as we walked in though there seemed to be a terrible smell. Couldn't name it exactly, but it seemed to be like bleach. Walked up to the bar and just as we were about to order asked the bar maid politely what the smell was. What smell she replied? Well smells like Bleach. You mean clean she said quite aggressively. No bleach. At which point she said even more aggressively "I think you'll find that's the same. look bleach up on google you'll find it means clean" "Don't you like clean". Well I like clean, but I don't like drinking or eating with the suffocating smell of bleach, nor do I like bar staff with a bad attitude having a go at me for no reason. "Bye then" we left. Plenty of pubs & restaurants in Newcastle that offer decent service, drinks & food.
So we crossed the road and went into the Town Wall where we had a most enjoyable pint. Won't be back to the Forth though.
