Although the food was very nice the portions were quite small. Both starters and main courses. Not the cheapest restaurant either. Service was nice and the setting equally lovely. Open kitchen so you can view food being prepped. Would revisit.

Went here for an early business dinner, as it turns out not the best decision in the world from a business perspective but I will get to that later.

We got there at 6.45 and by 7.30 the restaurant (which is not massive) was full. The service was friendly and attentive, though slacked a little once it became really busy.

We had no starters but had:

Beetroot risotto, 2 x fillet steaks and beef cheeks, Chicken.

The portions here are not for everyone, they are on the "delicate" size, which is fine for me as I hate to be overfaced, but for anyone with a big appetite you had better fill up on bread, starters and pudding. Having been here now for breakfast, lunch and dinner this is consistent and not a one off, so be aware.

That said, the quality and presentation of the food is superb, just ideal for me, vegetables come on nice little side dishes, very nice.

One slight flaw, my beef cheek was DELICIOUS, the fillet steak, though tiny (4 oz), and cooked medium to perfection - was tough as old boot, very disappointing - as it was cooked perfectly one has to assume it was a bad cut, which is surprising as usually if fillet has any criticism is that its either overcooked or no flavour. ho hum.

No deserts other than a couple of scoops of ice cream.

Coffee is excellent here.

Now back to my first statement - this place suffers from the issue that many "designer" type places do nowadays - ie style over substance. This place is delightful to look out, but does not have one iota of soft furnishing, no carpets, no cushions, no rugs, all glass and mirrors. Consequently once the restaurant was full you quite literally could not hear yourself speak, the noise is INCREDIBLE, with the sound bouncing off the hard surfaces. By the end of the night we were all almost yelling across the table.

The other criticism is that they have a second entrance at the side by the patio which they do not lock and allow people to enter from (rather than the main entrance) - as it was absolutely freezing the night we went, and we were sat right by this door - it was flipping freezing, in and out half the night with a gale force wind blowing through the door every time someone came in - or went out (for a fag) - please ask people to use the front door, which is near reception AND has a porch - rather than inconveniencing all your other guests!

About £130 including tip, bottle of wine and other drinks.

Overall, great value, lovely food, nice service, but to be honest I just wouldn't go back because the noise was enough to drive you insane, definitely not one for a romantic meal if thats what you wanted.

Hi

Heard so much about this place ..... Had to give it a go! Overall good service, food, decor and ambience. Staff was friendly and helpful. We had tried the following:

Big Breakfast - The Hunter
Big Breakfast - The Gardener
Small plate - Scrambled egg with white toast and the big five smoothie

The food was food but not exceptional. Wanted to try the lunch menu but not many vegetarian options available to choose from ...... Also limited parking available near this place.

Cheers

Thank you for your great feedback on the ambience, service, food and decor- we are glad you tried us out. We are surprised by your comments on our lunch menu as we currently have 7 vegetarian dishes on it plus 4 vegetarian sides, 4 fish dishes and 5 meat dishes so our vegetarian options do out weigh our other options on lunch. Please try us again as I am sure you will like the options we do have.

Loved everything about it. Brocco just gets it all right - decor, staff, food, drinks. All had a very high quality feel whilst still being down to earth and accessible. A perfect place to go for a memorable meal out in Sheffield.
