The service was great Paloma was lovely and full of helpful recommendations which we discussed while enjoying lovely cups of tea and wine and enjoying the lovely (if slightly rainy!) view!

Really disappointed by the quality of service which caused my party (a group of four friends) to leave after 20 minutes. We arrived without a reservation and were found a seat inside after being told the spare ones outdoors on the terrace were all reserved. At that point we couldn't really complain. It was lovely weather and it wasn't difficult to imagine all of the outdoor seats were fully booked.
Problems arose when we were sat at our table indoors. The maitre d' forgot to give us any drinks menus, but this wasn't too inconvenient as we all knew what we'd be having. However, after about 10 minutes we began to wonder if our order was going to be taken at all. The restaurant was busy but the staff did not seem to be run off their feet. Despite being sat close to where the maitre d' welcomed diners and sustained attempts to make eye contact with numerous waiting staff, we could not seem to attract anyone's attention.
At this point I was getting a little annoyed but could maybe understand that we'd fallen through the cracks and our table had not be assigned to a waiter, but any sympathy I had dissipated when I overhead the maitre d' offer two new diners, who clearly said they did not have a reservation, a table outdoors. The table they were offered (which could easily seat our party of four) was apparently not available when we arrived, despite being vacant. Having been assured on arrival we'd be offered the first outdoor table that became available, this was somewhat galling when added to the fact nobody had come to take our order after 15 minutes by this point.
After waiting another five minutes and still not having had our orders taken, or even being offered any water, we decided to leave.
Due to the incredibly poor quality of service I have no choice but to give the Ashmolean Restaurant a one-star review. If I'd actually been given a chance to try its food, I don't doubt it would have been much higher.

Dear Rachel D,

Thank you very much for your honesty in your review and feedback our your experience in the Rooftop Restaurant. Like all feedback given to us, we appreciate your comments as we can use your criticism to approve in all areas mentioned. We do recommend making a reservation just to avoid any disappointment in the future. However, given the fact the maître d' had offered new diners a table outside, this was not the appropriate course of action. Therefore this will be addressed with said maître d'. We do apologise for this inconvenience caused to your guests and yourself, correspondingly we would like invite you and your guests for a complimentary celebration tea on our Rooftop Restaurant. If you would like to take us up on this offer then please email us at: ashmolean@benugo.com.

Once again we apologise for the inconvenience caused and we will hope to see you again soon.

Kind regards,

Andrea T

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our rooftop experience at the Ashmolean Restaurant in Oxford. The Guinea Fowl and chips was very tasty, as were our two desserts. Service was friendly and the set menu was excellent value.

The food was excellent and the price even better . We had great service from our waiter Arcangelo.

We had live jazz duo with an excellent selection of classics throughout our stay. We had a table in the terrrace with a lovely view. And no rain or cold !

I ordered the mustarded lamb , with creamed peas and spinach . My wife had the market fish with vegetables . We both asked for the soup of the day which was sweet potatoe cream soup . We also had a side of bread with butter and balsamic vinegar and a side of creamed potatoes . Washed it down with a bottle of rose .
For dessert we had 2 espressos and shared a New York cheesecake.
All in all was £ 99, but with the groupon voucher i got a £61 discount. So it was £38 in total . Not bad for a romantic 2 hour dinner with my wife with live music !

I would definitely recommend it . Our waiter Arcangelo was very polite and helpful, so I would also recommend having him as a waiter .

We are planning on going back with a couple of our friends .

We booked via the Randolph Hotel and to our dismay we were seated next to the till in a corridor. It is a nice restaurant the food is enjoyable but our experience was spoilt by our seating position. So if you go , and i suggest you do , ensure you know where you are sitting.

Dear Glyn,

We do apologise for your bad experience with the seating. If you have any requests for tables we are more than happy to take them and try our best to give you a table more suitable to your needs. During busier periods it can be difficult to accompany all customers requests however we will try our best. We hope that you have enjoyed the food and the service regardless though.

Kind regards,
