Fantastic place, where you are positively encouraged to sit on furniture, try out games, and even enjoy a small sherry! You get a real feel of it being a family home, rather than a "museum" and the volunteers are friendly, knowledgable and interesting. The gardens are also superb and the tea room is excellent. Parking is very limited, and restricted to disabled users only, but it's easy to get to by bus, bicycle, or even on foot (although it is a bit of a walk from the City).

Pay a visit, you won't regret it.

Former home of the Terry family ( chocolate family ) in suburb of York about a mile from the station, the garden backs onto the race course opposite the Terry factory ( now apartments and other uses)
Beautiful large Arts and Crafts family home, looked after by the National Trust, some rooms representing the family life and displays about the business too.
Beautiful gardens, lovely food in the tea room.

Beautiful arts and crafts house owned by Terry’s chocolate family. Stunning rooms with beautiful carving , very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Delicious treats in the cafe including chocolate orange cake. Beautiful garden to walk around. Only about a mile out of the city, but well worth the walk or hop on the bus.

We had a lovely morning at this beautiful National trust property. My husband and I love looking around older properties and are interested in the design and architecture, but we weren't sure that our children would feel the same. We stayed nearly three hours in the end, exploring the house and gardens. We all enjoyed the outdoors as we were able to play tennis using the old rackets, available for our use. The food served in the cafe was good and all the staff were extremely professional and courteous.
