Had a groupon voucher for 5 tapas and 2 glasses of wine. The food was lovely, particularly the haddock fish cakes. Staff are unbelievably friendly and polite. Lovey inside too.

After a busy day in York, we were looking for an early evening meal and wandered into the Hook and Line before heading off home. Given that we decided to eat just after 5pm, we would miss the rush-hour traffic and have a good journey back home.

Service is friendly and the set-menu at £12.95 is good value; I tried the 5oz Haddock Special and whilst I admit, this is nothing more than “Fish and Chips on a posh plate” the food was lovely, hot not to mention the portion was larger than I expected. With hindsight perhaps I did not require bread and butter with it but I still managed to polish the whole thing off. The Strawberry Jam Sponge dessert was also pretty large and tasty too.

Nothing spectacular here but I believe that the set-menu was spot-on value here and for anyone visiting York yet thinking of somewhere for a bite before heading home then this place should be up for your consideration, given that the food was good quality.

Overpriced and poor quality. Fish and chips passable, the rest of it tasted as if no-one cares, certainly neither owner nor chef. Single front of house staff member doing his best, but having sent the starter back we were too tired and hungry to go elsewhere. So-called fish pie contained some mushed up fish of some kind underneath mash with some melted cheese on top, rubbery frozen tasting squid and tiny mushy prawns in linguine. Was supposed to have been a family meal out but left feeling resentful and ripped off. Lots of other eateries in the area, try one of those!

First visit to this venue. Lovely interior the seats that had been reserved for us were very comfortable. Groupon offer. Very good value. Good range of plates to choose from for the Tapas. My husband loved the calamari. The home made pate was also very good. Very good service, friendly staff. Very good location in the centre of York.

We visited here in the evening on 31 March 18 after noting how busy it looked during the day.

Customer service was brilliant, getting a highchair for our little one and putting our pram in the back room to make more room for ourselves.

Quick service with our drinks while we looked over the very extensive menu. I had the haddock & chips while my partner had the scampi. Huge portions so good to visit when you're hungry! Delicious tasty food, loads of scampi, haddock flaked off and the mushy peas and homemade tartare sauce really made it.

It was around 8pm when we left and people were still coming in, in fact it got busier as the evening went on. Sign of a good restaurant ??

We would definately revisit, thanks a lot
