Description: Based at the former Britannia Barracks and with spectacular views over Norwich, Cafe Britannia opened its doors to the public in January 2014. Our slogan taste rules, symbolises our delicious freshly cooked meals. As a social enterprise, we strive to not only put our profits back into community projects but we actively source a large proportion of our products from local Norfolk suppliers and from our own prison gardens. We are open 7 days a week with a dedicated breakfast menu served till 11:30,daytime menu including main lunches, light bites and afternoon tea, and an evening bistro menu which includes daytime favourites plus some teatime specials. Our main menu includes amongst other things gourmet burgers, fish & chips, ploughman's and omelettes. Plus an array of beautiful cakes, speciality scones, sausage rolls and Vintage afternoon tea. The cafe is staffed by category D low risk prisoners, many of whom have limited catering experience but all have volunteered to learn new skills, improve their lives and make a fresh start. The team all work incredibly hard to make the project a success and their commitment has shown, as Cafe Britannia has fast become one of the busiest cafes/restaurants in Norwich. All profits generated from the cafe are donated to community projects, including customer tips which are donated to Victim Support. To date, over £5,000 in tips have been donated to Victim Support.

Three of us went for a late(ish) breakfast / brunch to discover that most of Norwich had arrived just before us! Our fault. Having found a table (just) one of us queued for some time to order but once at the counter the process was very efficient.
However, we then had a long wait in a small room which was dominated by one group of 10 to 12 young adults who were so incredibly noisy we literally could not hear ourselves speaking (except for when their food arrived and the only sound was cutlery on plates).
When our food arrived (one King's breakfast, one Queen's breakfast and one veggie breakfast) it was substantial and very good. The King's breakfast comprised two sausages, four bacon rashers, two tomatoes, mushrooms, black pudding, baked beans, hash browns, scrambled egg and toast wedges. The Queen's was slightly smaller. The veggie was all of the above with veggie alternatives for the sausages. The wait was well worth it and we had killed some of the time drinking an Americano and Chai Latte, both good. There was plentiful cold water, highly necessary to wash down the huge quantities of food.
At such reasonable prices, easy parking and friendly service it is easy to see why the Britannia is so popular.
Memo to self; go earlier for breakfast!

Love it here, especially for breakfast. The 'Queens' is just about the most perfect start to the day. Free parking , great views of the City, friendly staff, freshly cooked food and all for a great price.

Visited for a birthday breakfast with my family. It was a great experience. The food was good, the service was great and the view is lovely. It is very reasonably priced and to be honest I would rather use this venue than a high street chain! We will return.

This was our third visit and it didn’t fail to please. Excellent food, served superbly, what gentlemen they all are and there is always a smile. Thank you for making another trip to The Britannia Cafe, special. We were also able to purchase-something special next door in their shop.

This is a lovely place to go for coffee and cake, but also for an evening meal. Delicious food, amazing drinks (especially the hot chocolates), the cakes are to die for and the staff are always friendly and talkative.
