Owner description: The original Liverpool Philharmonic Hall opened on 27 August 1849, and was an acclaimed and integral part of the cultural life of Liverpool before being dramatically destroyed by fire in 1933.The present day art-deco Philharmonic Hall, designed by architect Herbert Rowse and built on the same site, was officially opened on Monday 19 June 1939. Today it presents on average 250 events each year, of which approximately 70 are concerts by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, and sells over 250,000 tickets annually. The venue has an illustrious tradition of bringing the top names from rock, jazz, classical, folk and roots, classical and contemporary music to Liverpool. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Buddy Holly all appeared at the Hall during their careers. The Hall also hosts classic and blockbuster films and premieres, shown on the unique Walturdaw rising cinema screen with Merseyside's only resident theatre organist, Dave Nicholas. Our new space in the building, the delightfully intimate and informal Music Room, has its own entrance on Sugnall Street, and houses jazz, roots, folk and unplugged gigs. Liverpool Philharmonic has been working with schools and the community since the 1940s, and the Learning programme now offers a range of exciting and inspirational opportunities to get involved in live music-making of the highest quality for thousands of people every year in the Hall and throughout the region.

Friends recommended we visit this grade 2 listed pub and we were not disappointed it’s really beautiful, instead of one large room the pub is made up of various small sitting rooms all beautiful. We decided to have a sharing fish platter while there and were really disappointed some of the fish was cold, other greasy, when we told the young lady who cleared our table we were told she would tell the chef!

I listened to Lil' Jimmy Reed, a fine Louisiana Blues singer in the Music Room which has a capacity of under 200 persons. The concert was excellent and great value for money. The acoustics were excellent and the friendly staff were on hand to provide assistance. There is also a bar within the room - quick service was provided. I like this venue because of the ease of access - free street parking after 18.00, nearby restaurants and pubs and the wide variety of musicians playing interesting concerts.

Watched Prog Rock group Yes in the Phil (again) Serated in the Upper Circle Row G, good view of stage and the accoustics of the venue are as you'd expect faultless. Seating is very comfortable and facilities good. Medium sized venue which has more atmosphere than the larger arenas

I can't speak highly enough of the family 1 hour concerts. There is an opportunity before the concert for the children to try playing some of the instruments. Then the compere during the concert keeps the children informed. They are part of the concert and my grandchildren lived every minute of each concert.

Hi T_Bear,

Thank you for leaving us a review, it's great to hear that you are enjoying the family concerts and the instrument petting zoo. Hopefully we have inspired some youngsters to pick up instruments and involved in some classical music!
