Pitch was an overgrown layby, literally a pull in, for £35/night. Pitch 6. Site is really geared for park-homes with a small central area dedicated to tourers. Some tourers had a good/normal pitch, we and others had a layby. The tall dense forest made it very dark and cold. The site is generally a bit of a diy bodge job. The shower block seemed new but had no heating on. It was colder in the shower block than it was outside. The shower water was warm but you have to huddle under it as it's not a very broad shower head. Floor was flooded, so take fat flip flops. Toilets and showers were very spacious. Toilet cubicles were fab, each with its own basin/dryer. Site was good for water sports access (taking your own boat etc) and excellent for kids scooters as lots of sloping tarmac. Access to pub on foot was a 5mile walk down a 60mph road with no pavement to Bowness. Got a taxi back from Bowness for £12 with the dog. Local walks etc in the area are sparse. Taxi driver explained to us we were on the wrong side of the lake. The East side is all privately owned by rich folk for their holiday homes so there are no Lake side walks etc (or pavements!). The West side is more common land for walking/cycling. Hill Of Oaks is probably ok if you don't mind driving but we like to walk. The only dog walk was leaving via the exit and crossing straight over to a neighbouring campsite and heading up the hill through a lane. I wouldn't recommend this site unless you have a boat, like driving & live like a tree hobbit. As the name says, the site is on a massive hill. Access for 8m motorhome was ok for a good driver!

No signage to say at what side of current road works access is to the site. Wasted an hour on that! I booked and paid for two nights (only stayed one). Main gate to site was broken (no sign for alternative entrance in place) so drive to gate and have to reverse around corners. Don't consider this site if you want to walk to Bowness for example as your walking on a busy narrow road, so dogs, small children are not a good idea. Picturesque site but lacking in something. Wouldn't go again. Waterfoot Park as excellent though and is part of this group of sites.

Stayed here firstly in September 2016 and had fantastic weather that week. My wife found the site on the internet as usually we go to CCC sites but fancied a change, but still in the area near the South Lakes. Approach signage is sufficient as you should be aware of where you are, bigger approach signage would spoil the area as every establishment would do the same. The drive down to Reception is a single carriageway but one way, this should not be a challenge to a driver supposedly capable of towing a caravan. We found Reception to be nice, clean an efficient, I agree that the £10 shower / toilet block key charge should be made more prominent, perhaps a note could be added to the Booking Confirmation. We were Bookedin to a Super Pitch that was in a lovely wooded location and of a good size with all required services, including a TV point. Whilst we have SKY at home I hardly watch this so the choice of available Channels on site were more than enough for us ( We don't tend to go to Beautiful places to watch 'the box'), I do however understand that some people do. We stayed for nearly a week on both visits and found the Toilet / Shower block Clean, warm, well lit and spacious enough. I will agree with some other reviews that some people do drive a little to fast on the site roads. We had two dogs with us and they loved the exercise field when we were on the site, other walks were taken elsewhere. The views of the Lake from the several jetties were good and we liked the afternoon air shows!, all in all we went for a relaxing time and accomplished this on both occasions. We love the local area and are already booked in again for March and April. As I understand the four Lake Side Pitches have now gone and have 'Pods' on them, we would of liked to try the Caravan on one of these pitches but there will be other sites at other times. Thank you to all the Staff from Reception (Pam) to the Cleaners and grounds men looking after the site. Yes obviously we are going again, sorry I'm not recommending it, if we do that we might not get a Pitch ourselves next time!, so please go and find your own Wood to play in........ (Loved it, Thank you and can't wait till early March

Room tip: Check the web site for pitch positions, proximity to Toilets / Showers etc

Stayed as a tourer. Pitches were large but well hidden in the trees. Only a few pitches have lake views. Television reception is very limited even with the service provided on the tower. Toilets/showers spotlessly clean. Reception staff very helpful. Site is on busy road up to Bowness and this limits the walking from the site. It is in a forest (as the name would suggest) which made it all feel claustrophobic, which I appreciate is personal thing.

Room tip: If touring book a pitch with lake views

Thank you for your review and with regard to your observation regarding the trees, it is correct that there are a lot of them since the Park is set in a well established Woodland. We do work diligently with the National Park to ensure that the beauty and integrity of the woodland is maintained whilst sensitively balancing the requirements of a holiday Park. However this can have an effect on modern services such as TV and mobile coverage.

Thank you again for your review.

A good clean and well run caravan/mobile home park. The amenities block was very clean and tidy.

The only down sides to this site are:

Television reception was a slight problem as you can only use the hook ups where signal strength was low. Other than Vodaphone mobiles don't work on the site

The distance from Bowness (approx 4.8 miles) makes it impractical to walk there at night owing to the dangers of traffic as there are no pavements for most of the way.

Lack of lighting which will only be a problem in early and late season.

The speed of traffic within the site make it dangerous for young children to play

We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others, the staff are friendly and helpfull. We look forward to returning next season.

Room tip: The travelling site is well situated not far from the lake.
