The Roundthorn team could not have been more welcoming and such a lovely country house hotel. COVID-19 prevention and cleaning was at a very high level making us feel safe and sound. Excellent food and lovely Lakeland beers plus very welcoming and professional staff - Hayley was brilliant and took care of all our needs - thank you Roundthorn we will be back in happier times

Originally booked to stay 3 night, however, the accommodation was exceedingly comfortable I extended my stay for another night. The property is immaculate, comfortable and clean with all the amenities you would need. Stayed in the 1 bedroom Mews and as I was there on a business they brought me an extra table to do my work on (call it a desk) Staff extremely friendly and helpful. I have no doubts to recommend the hotel and look forward myself to spending more time there
Had a fabulous 2 night stay at this beautiful place. We were pleasantly surprised on checking in that we had a free upgrade to the luxury apartment. Thank you so much. Accommodation was to a very high standard. The staff were so welcoming and professional and food was excellent. Especially Sticky Toffee Pudding - I have to admit ordered both nights. In these times that are so difficult for the hospitality business the staff were pleasant and professional. Well done.
A lovely well kitted out apartment, 2 en-suite bedrooms giving privacy for 2 couples/people. Excellent kitchen with hob, oven, microwave and dishwasher. Large table for eating and a very comfortable sitting area. We were able to use facilities of the hotel, we ate an excellent breakfast each morning. Dinner menu is fine dining, would be nice to have some basic meals included especially if staying in the Winter. We ate dinner one night and enjoyed. The centre of Penrith is a short drive away, plenty of pubs to eat in.
Highly recommend a stay in the Mews apartments.
Went for Sunday lunch yesterday.Havent eaten anywhere inside since the pandemic
started ,but felt very safe there.As usual Graham and his staff pulled out all the stops.
Amazing food, beautiful location ,attentive staff.iIf you have never been, try it,you won’t be disappointed.Thank you all ,we will be back .

We stayed here for a couple of nights at the start of a longer holiday. In these current times it seems appropriate to start with Covid precautions, which were excellent. The hotel is lucky to have very spacious public areas and by providing dining across all of them, are able to keep everybody well distanced. Despite this, it still has the feel of a friendly hotel. The staff lead this, always sporting a big smile under their masks. I think.
The food is very good, not spectacular.
Our room was very spacious and the bed was remarkably comfortable. The only downside was that it was in the attic, which meant Velux windows, limiting our view, which is a shame as the landscape is glorious. Also, the stairs to our room were steep and narrow. That wasn’t a problem but if you’re infirm or unfit and have heavy luggage, it could be.
Overall a great stay in a well run and friendly hotel.
