We didnt realise how late it was after a trip to the lakes.
Round the corner was the Outgate Inn. We were the only ones in the pub. Not a good sign I thought. We decided to have lunch anyway, we opted for the cumberland burger. Waited a while which too me is a good sign as it should be freshly cooked. When it arrived we were stunned by its size, tasted brilliant. The land lady and the staff were great. I would go again when in the area.
Old stile pub with great food.

Room Tip: Well worth a visit

Fantastic place to stay for a walking break . The Outgate Inn is perfectly situated to explore the south lakes area, lots of walks start directly from the door. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the food is amazing . There was a very warm and cosy feel and it's perfect at the end of a days exploring to enjoy a drink and fabulous meal in this walker/dog friendly pub. We stayed 2 nights and started each day with a fantastic breakfast , well cooked and huge we certainly didn't need to eat again all day ! The evening meals were equally good. The Cajun chicken burger was well presented and absolutely delicious. The menu is simple with a couple of specials each day a perfect way to ensure high standards . The food here could put many a smart restaurant to shame. We will definitely return as soon as possible.

The Outgate Inn has 2 rooms. Our room was a little tired and cramped but okay. We didn't want anything posh as we were walking and its only for sleeping. Breakfast was superb, quality bacon, sausage etc. Food on Pie Night and Burger night was excellent. You wouldn't go hungry. Nice beers. Walk to Wray castle starts by side of the inn. Great spot. Walk to Hawkshead in 25 mins. Cosy log fire was a nice treat.

If you are looking for wall to wall luxury this is not for you. If you want a lovely old pub with comfortable rooms and wonderful food this is the place. The traditional breakfast is great - far too much unless you have a big appetite. The smaller breakfast is what you would usually expect. The rest of the food is an excellent choice of perfectly cooked local produce. The landlord and landlady are friendly and welcoming.

We popped into the Outgate Inn for something to eat whilst staying in the Lakes. The pub is nice and cosy and the ambience was just as expected for a country pub. `we ordered fish and chips which were really nice. The service was good as was the beer.
