We arrived on Boxing night as a couple with an 18 month old baby for a little break over Christmas. We had a suite. The room was immaculate & very spacious, ideal for our baby girl as we brought along her books & some toys to play with. There was a corner sofa area with additional TV & table where we enjoyed dinner & drinks. The bed was huge & very comfy. There were floor to ceiling windows overlooking a gorgeous lake view & there was a large balcony. Unfortunately we were unable to enjoy the balcony as it was very wet & windy. The bathroom was nice & modern & my husband & I enjoyed a couple of lovely bubble baths. There were nice Molton Brown toiletries & a decent refreshment tray in the room & water. The hotel is in a lovely setting with beautiful views & right on the Lake.
All communication prior to arrival was very good. The reception area had lovely lights & Christmas decorations. I enjoyed a short visit to the spa of an evening. I used the pool & sauna, but didn't book any treatments. The spa area is small but nice & the pool has jacuzzi jets.
The only downsides to our stay were the fact that the TVs in the room only had terrestrial channels despite the fact they were SMART TVs. It was a bit disappointing not to be able to access extra channels & services like Netflix. I would expect this option in a hotel of this calibre. It was Christmas & obviously part way through the pandemic & the weather was extremely wet so it would have been nice to have more options as a family to snuggle up in our room in the evening & have more choices of what to watch. The other disappointment was the room service food. We ordered 2 pizzas at £16 each & some fries. We don't mind paying extra for good food but in all honestly the pizzas that arrived were very mediocre. They were perfectly fine but comparable to a cheap supermarket pizza. We felt a bit ripped off paying £16 each for a very average small 10 inch pizza.
My husband in particular thoroughly enjoyed our hearty breakfast the next morning, included in the room rate. I also have to point out that the staff we encountered were lovely, helpful & very attentive to our little girl, particularly the waiting on staff at breakfast. I would consider returning & exploring the area of Grasmere a bit more next time as the hills & lake surrounding the hotel are beautiful. Perhaps a trip back to the area & possibly the hotel once we come out of the pandemic.
