We walked from white moss car park to the caves. It’s a lovely walk and the children loved the stepping stones and the enormous cave. It’s an easy path really, a bit stoney in places but our 4 year old had no problems. The path is popular though so be prepared to share it and unfortunately irresponsible dog owners are threatening to spoil it with leaving poo bags on dry stone walls and letting their off lead dogs chase terrified sheep. I’ve been coming to the lakes for years and this is the first time I have encountered this behaviour here so I was a bit shocked and disappointed really. Anyway, it’s a lovely walk and if you can go at less busy times then do that! A rainy day would be the best bet!

We did the combined Grasmere & Rydal Lakes walk using the walklakes suggested route.
First section takes you uphill into the woods, providing us with good shelter from the snow blizzards. This section ends with a tearoom before dropping to cross the main road where there is a pub. Most of the remainder is along the far side of the lakes.

A lovely place to walk in the sunshine. Well surfaced paths , easy low level walk- great tea in Fairyland.

Great if the weather on the fells is bad, make a detour to the Rydal caves and call in at faeryland for some a cuppa and a scone or try the gluhwein.

Most years we visit Grasmere, and walk round it. And Rydal Water. Not to demanding, and fabulous views. I first came here in 1964, and I keep coming back. That should speak for itself!
