The main problem for us with this place was the parking, which is very limited next to the hotel. They offer the B&Q car park on the other side of the main road but this left a lot to be desired when we have an elderly disabled dog and my husband also has mobility difficulties. It's also a lot further from the ferry port than I realised.
The room was really small - I know it's budget and our choice was limited by the need to find a dog- friendly place but there was nowhere to put anything down where you might not tread on it.. I went doen to reception to get a couple of sweet snacks and nearly fell over when the receptionist said the cost would be £3.50 - really? £1.75 each for a small Snickers and a KITkat?!!! I abandoned them and went to the Kwik-e-Mart around the corner.
It must be said however that the staff were very charming, helpful and pleasant and the room and hotel in general were both spotlessly clean.
Ibis have a lot to learn from the French Campanile chain - similar prices or cheaper but much better facilities...

Room Tip: Get there early if you don't want a trek to parking - it would be a nigh mare with small children

Dear mrscherylsalmon,
Thank you for your review. We have limited parking available on site, as advertised although we are pleased to be one of the few hotels in Portsmouth who offer free parking to all of our guests. If the onsite parking is full we also have a large shared car park across the road from the hotel, which is also free of charge. Should our guests have mobility issues, we also have blue badge disabled spaced available next to the hotel entrance. The ferry port is a short 12 minute drive, dependent on traffic from the hotel.
We hope you would chose to stay in the Ibis Budget brand again.
Kind regards
Rebekka

The staff were absolutely lovely and welcoming with a smile on their faces and ready to offer any assistance they can. The hotel itself is on a shopping estate near various fast food outlets and a large Tesco. To get into Portsmouth dockside you can take a bus or make a short drive through Portsmouth's nightmarish road system (very stressful during rush hour). It's also walkable. Temperatures were very high in Portsmouth when we visited but our room was red hot with poor ventilation. The rooms have a climate control system rather than true air con, and this system occasionally blew hot air into the room making it even more stifling. During the visit the storage business opposite was having work done necessitating scaffolding which was a bit grim and took up some parking spaces. Very few spaces are generally available although you can park in the shopping area for free. On an evening biker gangs on dirt bikes race around the estate and go to the McDonald's which was very noisy late into the night. Overall the hotel was clean and bright and the staff were excellent but the rooms need better ventilation and the location is a bit soulless but then again for a budget stay you can't expect a seaside view I suppose.

Dear clemclemclem,
Thank you for your review, we always appreciate feedback from our guests. The temperatures the UK is currently experiencing are above what we normally expect, to contend with this we recently had our climate control systems inspected to ensure they were up to standard. The climate control systems are one of the measures Accor has in place to increase our sustainability.
We hope to you stay with us again in the future.
Kind regards
Rebekka

Three of us stayed here for one night in a triple room. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. Only thing to be aware of is the bathroom set up was a bit odd. There isn't a full bathroom as such, but a separate toilet cubicle, a separate sink in the room and a stand-alone shower cubicle. This was okay but meant there was nowhere to change to get in or out of the shower, so you had to do it in the actual room, so not ideal if you're sharing! There is free but limited parking outside the hotel and it's only a 10 minute drive into the centre of Portsmouth. Absolutely fine for one night but probably wouldn't stay for several nights.

We were very impressed with this Ibis hotel, being a budget hotel we were not expecting that much so was pleasantly surprised. Handy location with plenty of options to eat out. We had 3 rooms for the family and all were basic and compact but clean and tidy with every thing you would need to make your stay pleasant. Breakfast was very adequate in the morning and was quick service. Upon arriving late on the Mon 25th June we were greeted by a very pleasant young girl Barbara I believe her name to be, nothing was too much trouble which made it easy for us to check in. The staff in general were all very helpful and friendly.

Wow. What a excellent hotel idea. Plain, compact but perfect for a weekend or 1 night stay. Very polite staff, very clean and tidy. The building is oldish and tired in places but well presented and well maintained.
We will be staying hear again.
